Maybe for you. But new hires have to have EOBR. Been stated many of times. And obviously you have to carry workmans comp. So how is it not different

So lets see. You state that it is no different. i say Prove it. I mean not trying to sound like a mean person but, you put it out there. You show me where spending the money per year for an EOBR and workmans comp is no different from my costs. I am pretty sure. matter of fact I am 150% sure I am gonna show you up on those 2 items alone. wanna play?

Crazy D how long have you been an o/o and how long your authority. The only thing our eobrs do is make you run legal. He must have been one of the ones landstar rejected. He reapplied and they said no twice.

Not sure what you're talking about when you say micro managed by Landstar. No one micro manages me. As far as the EOBR being a waste of $327 dollars a year, I totally agree. I dont have any intentions of running one until required to do so.

You're right workman's comp is not required by law (in fact I don't believe it's even legal to obtain without having at least one employee) but the equavalent to is with LS. Personally, I believe you get what you pay for with insurance. Cheap insurance is easy to find, but always comes at a price.

Actually, I was in this situation in 1997. I had one employee and was required to have a workman's comp policy for him. Since I had him insured, I was able to also insure myself for an outrageous $300 a month more. For whatever reason I decided to insure myself on that particular Friday afternoon. The policy went into effect at 8am Monday morning. I kid you not, at 8:10 am the 17 year old kid accidentally lowered a piece of equipment onto my hand severing three fingertips. I did not have to sue myself, as you suggest, but simply went to the hospital for treatment, and then on to a plastic surgeon to fix what he could. That expensive insurance policy not only paid ALL of my medical bills, they actually asked me what I paid myself monthly, and without requiring any proof....they paid me that amount for three months while my hand healed up. Then sent me to "their" doctor to detetmine the amount of "disability" I had and then gave me a final settlement, which was more than fair.

So, no, occupational insurance isn't for everyone, but for me personally, I would have it whether Landstar required it or not.

leasing or own authority is just matter of preference really but contrary to what a lot of people say on here its not expensive or hard to run your own authority.
