Two wheelers and School Buses always deserve extra space.

Speaking of idiot 4 wheelers. Today on us54 in NM I was briefly held up by an accident. A California fly by night produce hauler had gone off the road and rolled his truck between Carizozo and Corona. The road was blocked off for about 30 minutes while the wreckers tipped the truck back on its wheels. When we are all cut loose, the 4 wheelers start leapfrogging around us big trucks. But one guy in particular in a Chevy Avalanche was particularly daring. He was passing 2-3 vehicles at once, doing at least 90. Well he caught the eye of the state trooper behind me (I was at the end of the line) and he starts leapfrogging and winds up behind the Avalanche just after he did another leapfrog. Didn't pull him over but clearly made it known he needed to calm down. We get to Carizozo and the Avalanche immediately gets off and parks. My guess to put on a new pair of pants.

There's the problem. Not enough enforcement against aggressive driving 4wheelers. Instead they're more interested in the 18 wheeled cash registers that have an ABS light on, or missing 2" of DOT tape on the back of the sleeper.

There I not a highway designed in the world to fit your scenario. Three lane highways are designed for: 1st lane, traffic entering or exiting the highway. One is slowing down, one is speeding up, neither is moving at highway speed. 2nd, center lane is for consistent, steady speeds, not for trucks doing 5 or 10 miles above the speed limit. Where we run into problems in this lane is traffic laws prohibiting truck traffic in lane three, the passing lane. These new truck restricted lanes came after the highway was designed and built. Common sense would tell you, trucks running in the second lane need to slow down, it was not designed as a passing lane. This is how the highway system was designed and it trumps your need for speed.

Most of a designed highway is not 3 or more lanes. It's only 2. Highways don't become 3 or more lanes until you're in a metropolitan area. In these areas, the speed limit is 55. It's not 62 or whatever the speed your truck is governed at. This is where many bottom feeder companies get speeding tickets. Posted speed limit may be 55 or even 50 and they will still have the speedo pegged at governed speed.

Yes very much so. Them and bull haulers. I give cow trucks extra space dont want that load of cattle getting delayed. Gotta have my steak and burgers haha. Kiddy cars get all the space in the world as for motor cycles they get extra room in the tractor and i wish i had a paintball gun in my pickup to plink half the crotch rockets out there. Wheelies, high speeds, etc etc. And not one bit of saftey equipment aside from a helmet and jacket crazy ### morons
