Do you run illegal on your logs?

Do you log a 10 hour break but only stop for 8 hours or close to it?

    OHHHH logs, you know I am gonna have my fun here!:biggrin_25523:Lets see. No room for error here. Hmmmm, did you allow 2 hours to unload? Did you log it legal? Hmmm, doesn't look like it! Did you have them tow your desk to a safe place? See how easy logging is? Of course you are more tired than us because we have it so much easier out here because we don't have all the unknown elements to factor in like you do!:biggrin_2559: OK, I will let you off the hook here since it is Christmas!     ohhhhh, i could fill the server answering this one.

    illegal hours is why i'm in iraq- my friend and co-worker was hit (and later died) by a knight transport driver who fell asleep, drifted right, and hit a fully lit-up police car, the pickup bill was loading, and his wrecker. the driver was 23, and had just driven from indianapolis to north denver straight thru.

    my first thought? dang, but for dumb luck, that could be me, and if i don't change something, IT WILL BE

    first company i towed for, here's a normal conversation
    I'm too tired to do a 500 mile round trip, i've been up 30 hours now
    we've got more log books in the break room
    i'm not out of hours on my log, I"M ####**G TIRED
    but, but, we've got more log books in the break room
    (repeat 2 more times, louder each time)
    (sounds of blank log book being thrown at dispatcher)
    (sounds of door slamming as i left)

    i have done 49 hours NON STOP in a 41' long, 36,000lb kw 35 ton wrecker. i have done a 1523 mile trip, denver to ft worth to denver, in 23 hours, after being up and in the truck 26 hours before i left.
    i have the notebooks, i have the proof in my notes, and the tow tickets i filled out, and in the company's own dispatch logs. i'd rather work outside the wire in iraq than continue to be pushed, on the threat of losing my job if i turned down a run, of take the chance of killing someone because my boss was greedy

    so, if you break down, remember- YOU just broke down. you have no idea what that tow driver has been doing before he got the call. he might have been on his first night off in 4 weeks, might have been at dinner on his kids birthday, or celebrating his anniversary, or have just finished watching a coroner load 3 children in body bags into a van, because a drunk hit them. the world just might be a little bigger than you and the truck you just broke down in.

    I had a company safety director tell me that he wanted us to run legal. The owner came by and wanted to know how a driver could be out of hours, there were lots of log books in the breakroom. A driver has no excuse for not being able to make the run.

    that seems to be the norm now days. funny how they all preach running legal but behind closed doors they will tell you to do what you have to to make the run and even carry a second log book or run loose leaf logs. and as a driver there is not much you can do about it if you want to make some money and get some runs. turn down a load and it is funny how they treat you different and they get away with it since they know most drivers will do it without question. it's a catch 22 now , ###### if you do, ###### if you don't. whatever you do just make sure you cover your butt cause if something happens they will hang you out to dry.

    Years ago, when I was trying to learn & understand how to do the log books, a few friends fathers did lie on their log books, if not, they wouldn't get their loads in time & the employers, well, needless to say, they wouldn't be too happy with the drivers.:biggrin_25513:
