I was not sure where to post this.I figured that the tanker guys do ''haz mat''.Needless to say i am up for recertifacation on my HAZ MAT ENDORSEMEMNT.I have to retake the test and do all the finger printing again.
Does anyone no of any good study guides to make this a little easier for me.I am getting older and the 1970's and 80's did not help with all that columbian gold, led zepplin and chasing woman..I am having a bit of a hard time retaining the info..Last time around it took me 3 times at 10.00 a wack to get it right.
Do any of you Haz Mat haulers no of any study guides, practice tests or cheat sheets i can study.I found the practice tests on this forum and did ok.I passed the 10 question and failed the 30 questions..
At Landstar, they want us to have it.Even though we never haul it.So it is tougher if we are not familiar with it and never deal with it.Not sure why Landstar does this but it is there rules..
Thanks Landstar8891

What are you having a problem remembering for the hazmat test? Anything specific?
.
.General advice is do not guess unless you absolutely have to. If you do not understand the question or do not have a clue for an answer , press the "Skip" button. That question will go to the back of the list. There are 30 questions. You need 80% correct; that means 24 to pass. The test automatically ends when you get 24 correct answers or you answered all 30 questions -- whichever comes first.
.
.Get your Commercial Driver's Manual and study chapter 9. Try highlighting the important stuff in different colors. Outline that chapter in a notebook. It helps you to remember. If you can come up with a picture in your mind that can provide an answer that is also helpful.
.
.For example: You can not use a cargo heater with what hazardous materials? If you picture yourself in the truck, when you turn the heat on, you feel the heat on your leg. How do you spell leg? L-E-G.
.L is for liquid. What kind of liquid? Flammable liquid.
.E is for explosives
.G is for gas. What kind of gas? Flammable gas.
.Those are the correct hazardous materials that you cannot use a cargo heater when hauling them.landstar8891 Thanks this. -

I too was told after 25 years I needed Hazmat... here is what I did...
I read the book slowly... do not get overwhelmed by all the numbers on certain materials.... then re-read again slowly... take breaks... then go back and re-read the parts you do not understand... memorize the easy stuff i.e. Fire extinguisher requirements... checking the tires after 100 miles....
Then keep taking the practice test on this site... keep taking it as many times until you get all 30 correct...
This will take a few hours but you will be prepared to pass... also if you fail at DMV you can take the test the same day at another DMV they will not tell you this but if you only have one day to get it done I would go to another DMV if you do fail...
All the tests are pretty closely matched... during the test you will recognize the questions you guessed at so if you fail go look up the correct answer when re-taking...
Best of luck....landstar8891 Thanks this. -

I used this plus the cheat sheets from Smith& Solomon. Questions are the same as the jersey test almost word for word.
