I'm leaving for central at the end of april and i was wondering if i absolutely need to get a cb right away once i go solo driving for the company or does central refrigerated supply there company drivers with a cb. I dont have alot of money and i was just wondering about how much money would i be spending if i had to get one. And what kind would be a good one for a beginner?

cobra 29 ltd classic is the industry standard
i bought a $40 junk one on sale at loves when i first started out until i had a few paychecks
but some people never bother with them
of course they get called steering wheel holders and never know where the backups are etc

you wont need one until your solo anyway

    Drac1985 Thanks this.

Walmart has them pretty cheap. Also you might try a pawn shop they have pretty decent ones also

You dont need one right away. You will wish you had one when your sitting for hours in traffic because you didnt know to take a short detour around.

I agree, you will need one quick. Maybe not right away but they do come in handy. Besides traffic reports some customers use them, very helpful when you first show up and don't know where to go.

It's your typical driver that relies on someone sitting behind a desk to inform him of everything. He doesn't have to think...all he has to do is hold the steering wheel and do what the desk jockey commands. I posted last week about a guy sitting on the side of the bigroad with his trailer on fire, calling on the phone to ask desk jockey command what to do. Someone made a comment about how stupid a driver has to be to sit there in a truck and his trailer is on fire. But that's exactly what steering wheel holders do.

youre not paid to think, you're paid to hold a steering wheel.

I bought a Cobra 29ltd at a local pawn shop back home for $50. Works pretty good with the volvo stock antennas. It also came with a gear keeper for the mic and those are $20 alone at the truckstop.
