Excellent. I understood and researched the business side. from their vantage point I fully understand. That's the business world I'm coming from. Just try to clarify information from the recruiter. Wasn't concerned w/ speed but the ability to pull on grade. Having been on the management side I have no disillusions on expectations. Thx again for your expertise on prime. Still scheduled end of April.

It's the torque that the engine produces using the available horsepower that get's you up the grade. The transmission is a torque multiplier. You downshift until the available torque matches the load produced by the weight of the truck and the angle of climb. The consequence of this is how fast you go up the hill. Every newb on the planet has a cow over this... unfortunately, Mr. Newton (Issac) et al, have the final say in this. The next thing they have a cow over is the "vastly underpowered wimp trucks that Prime provides." Mostly influenced by watching trucks with either 10,000 lbs in the box (compared to your 45,000 lbs) shoot up the grade past you, or the guys in the "hoods" with the performance mods on their precious CAT engines doing the same thing. Of course they won't mention that they're getting about 500 yards to the gallon while doing that.

It takes quite a bit of skill to push our heavy loads up these grades while getting superior fuel economy. That's what they're paying you for, not to play Indy 500 in a big truck.

On a smaller scale I've pulled horses around country w 5 sp f250 diesel. Understand torque & pulling. But when underpowered its a bit more tedious at best. & it's older model which is more challenging. Ready for a little more torque & length. Safe travels.

Driving a large commercial vehicle is nothing like playing with an oversized pickup truck.

Hey IP, thanks for all your posts on this thread. I've been following and do appreciate it. I'm considering Prime tanker division outa of school. Do you know anything and or have an opinion? Does the tanker div use the Eco 49? Does the Eco 49 have an APU? Anything you can shed light on regarding tanker at Prime or direct me where I can learn more (yes I used the advanced search feature) is very much appreciated. Be safe.
