Can't you just use a family member for your address for taxes and whatnot? Would just having a driver's license with said address be enough to claim residency or would you need your name on a utility?

I owned my house before I went OTR, and it wasn't the best time to sell property. When I made the decision to go OTR I just decided to rent it out. I went and bought a used 3 bedroom trailer-house and put it on the back edge of the property with using that as my "official" home in mind. On average, I was spending a few days every 6 weeks there, so I rent that out too. If I'm home, I stay with my parents. Otherwise, I'll pay for a motel wherever the mood hits me. It's like taking a vacation.

Btw-I'm divorced with no children or girlfriends that I want to see more than one day at a time. It's worked for me so far. I'm lucky in the renters I found, because they don't seem to be meth enthusiasts at face value. Even if I didn't own property, I would go the motel route. It just seems to be a waste to throw money at something you aren't going to use.

Two things to this story that somebody who was street smart should have understood.

    1. This guy had hired locals to help build a "sprawling dream home" , which means "white gringo who had lots of money, flaunted it and made himself a target " you don't go to mexico and flaunt a lot of money--and a lot of money to them is like 500 dollars. you don't do this in chicago, or oakland, or any other 'bad' city in the usa so why would you do it in mexico.

    2. he was in rural mexico. it's harder to fit in there than in a border town full of deportees and gringos.

    3. the mexico thing is not that bad of an idea if you're in tijuana or rosarito. there's huge expatriate communities of white americans living there who blend in and live safe lives. the key is 'blend in.' blending in does not include building a 'sprawling dream home' like the victim did. if you go to mexico and get yourself the 200 dollar apartment you fit in like a normal working class mexican and arrellano-felix isn't coming after you trying to cut your face off. . .

True, true. Good point. The guy was clearly very naive.

Another thread talked of similar issues/ Seems some IRS issues get involved too. I'm thinking at this point of renting a 'ghost' room at a friend's house, for a very modest amount, that will allow me to claim a physical residence. Then, when I am spending home time seeing my kids and ex-wives (friends of mine now) I'll probably stay at a hotel. That's my current plan anyway.

Didja try YRC in Chicago Heights? Conway in Des Plaines is hiring if you have Hazzy and Trippps. May as well try Old Dominion and ABF why you are up there too if you have the aforementioned endorsements.

I may be homeless come June-July also. I may be taking on a regional gig. The home-everynight gig I have now is spotty and when I do work I am only in the bed four-five hours per worknight--weekends off.

Wanna split renting a house? Stickney, Forest View area? Unless I get a gig at this container company in Bensenville, then we could seek Bennyville or Des Plaines or Berekely.

Yeah I don't have hazzy. I'm actually moving to California after the house goes bye bye. I'm so through this midwest winter bs. It has been my dream for several years to get out there. Losing the domicile is sort of a blessing in disguise as I'll finally be free to go. I already got a company in mind in So-Cal that I want to drive for. Will live out the truck for a few months to be able to slowly look for an apartment.

Ouch 4 or 5 hours sleep is rough man. Been there done that. What do they have you start at 3 or 4 am?

Many people are starting to live out of vans, I don't know if that is an option but check out youtube there are plenty of videos of people doing it.

Friend of mine rented a storage facility with electricity and put a bunk in it; pays about $50.00 a month for it. It's in an old warehouse that was partitioned off into storage rooms. It's one block from the terminal. Technically, he's not supposed to live there, but he's quiet and has 24/7 access to his room. It's real comfortable for him. He gets his mail at a United Parcel Service Store that has mail services. He's really racking up some money in a savings account.
