I ran across this local story today and thought it was unique enough to share. Apparently, the driver was backing into the dock when a man got in front of the dock and got squished into the dock. Investigators say it looks like the man did it intentionally, and that the driver seemingly took all necessary precautions. The driver is apparently very distraught over the incident. I thought this was an interesting story, because it is one of those instances that goes to show that bad things just sometimes happen no matter how careful you are. I hope the driver isn't found to be at fault, although the cynic in me thinks it wouldn't be too far fetched for a company to call this preventable (who knows, maybe it was, it just doesn't look like it this time).

So she said she took all necessary precautions? Being a regular stop at the corner of the building she probably whipped in there without glancing at the dock, checked her mirrors but couldn't see him sleeping on the ground out of her view and it dark out. The beeping noise woke him up and in a drunken stupor he stood up. She's not at fault but I don't think she done everything possible.

I'd believe that over someone running off from the side trying to commit suicide at 5 am in the morning.

It will be interesting to see what the investigators find out. The guy is still alive, hopefully he lives to tell the tale.

I think this points out that everyone should GOAL before backing, it was dark, she had probably bumped the dock here 1000 times and it just became routine. Sure it takes a minute to GOAL, BUT I doubt if this accident would off happened had she done that.

I'm wondering how many of us (all of us!) would have given just the cursory look before hitting this dock...the same dock we've hit a hundred times before?

Do not sit there and tell me you GOAL every single time you back. You'd be lying.

    Several pretty high-handed comments here.....
