I seem to see people say trucking is terrible now and just not what it used to be. How does this help new drivers? How does this help make things better? Things always change. That's life. I like this idea, because all it takes is a community who wants to adapt today's trucking with yesterday's trucking pride to make it happen. I certainly cannot relate to the bitterness of experienced drivers by any means, but its kind of tiring to read so much constant cynicism crapping on my choice of a new career that I am excited to get started. I know what I am getting into for the most part, and am still excited regardless. I don't know why you shouldn't be able to have pride in what you enjoy just because things aren't they same as they used to be.

Really not seeing the bitterness . Yes sir , I hope you have a long enjoyable career in this industry ! But I fail to see how trying to get people we get paid for a job , to be professional ? Personally think you may enjoy your job more if you take pride in your industry. Walk in holding your head high, can say to your self I am a professional , and want the public to see you in a positive light also!

There will always be selfish people that don't care about the job, or other people doing it. All they care about is their paycheck.

jowsuf, i can answer your question about us old guys and our cynicisim , first of all you have no idea what your getting yourself into. We have been there done that and each have at least 5 dressers full of t shirts to prove it.... We have done and seen and forgotten more than you have learned yet. You have stories and dreams to tell you what its all about , we have lived it and done it.... We have seen our industry degragated and destroyed and pummeled into the pathetic business it is today, it hurts for us to remember the glory days when we were thought of as heros of the road, when a man made a decent wage driving that you could support a family on, and every kid going by requested us to blow the air horn for them, now airhorns are a pathetic jap horn button in the dash and sound like a sick calf bleeting for its mama.... Drivers used to be respected and used to take care of each other, and worked together in all ways to get the job done and educate the younger fellas and teach them the job and pass on thier knowledge to help them be the best.... Now your flooded with truck school grads who think they know it all but yet can't downshift let alone back into a parking spot without 30 pullups in 45 mins of time trying. Your excited now but soon it will become a job and the excitement will fade fast and you will become one of us old cyinical old guys too that are crapping on what you remember as a great industry you were excited about , till you wised up , opened your eyes and saw how the world was crapping on you...... Companies give you crap to drive , pay you crap wages and then try to steal a few more nickles out of your pockets, truck stops are screwing your dumb ### daily, they are nothing more these days than a 7/11 with fuel, showers and a bigger parking lot.... Hell, you can even find dental floss in a truckers store anymore, but you can find plenty of garbage to buy to make you into a fat ### 500 pound tub of guts, they raise the prices on everything and give you 2/3 less for the same money you paid last week, they charge you $12 for a lukewarm shower and you can pee with more water pressure than the shower puts out....nothing but junk food resturants in truck stops now, used to be truck drivers stopped a place to eat cause it had good grub. Now its cause you have a place to park your 53' trailer that you can't get in anywhere else hardly..... Those are just a few examples you keep coming on , your gonna learn, at the same time i congratulate you on your enthusiasim and wish you god speed and good luck in your new choosen career, if your here you can't say you were not forewarned.... I have plent of other skills but due to a crappy economy its not easy to find work enuf to pay the bills , in truckin which i love doing, i am good at it and make a decent enuf living. But its not fun like it used to be , things have changed so much since i started in "81" its like i arrived on a different planet after taking a nap.....to go back in time ,even 30 years you would not even recognize the industry as being the same as it is now,,,, and by god , you would be wishing you could have been around to be part of the olded days......i am basically starting over cause nothing cept gear jammin is the same... Things changed so much its like starting over fresh for an old hand....
