I was being facetious. I know exactly how the Ford claims system works. The responsible party pays for the repair the unit goes to auction, then you pay the loss of sale difference between the auction selling price and what the unit would hve sold for. Plenty of damaged vehicles became yard vans, shop trucks, and company cars

I'll tell you what a very expensive damage is that appears minor when called at the dealer. A small dent on a p/u bed rear below the taillight and above the bumper. Seen em all go to auction for being over the 500 disclosable

I remember a few years ago. The Mustang Bullitt edition had a fancy shift knob that was being stolen by the time it reached the railhead. They started shipping the Mustang without the knob and shipping them direct to the dealer.

Now you got me thinking...When the Expedition first came out, E & L brought a load out to PHX (off rail traffic to get the owners car to Scottsdale). I was looking at one since it was the first ones at the ramp. I shut the door and the rear cargo area glass just fell out and to the ground. We ate the claim, it was an $1800 piece of glass.

 

Sounds like the dealers, rail yards and etc are constantly trying to stick ya. How long does it take to load or unload a 9 car set up while doing a very extensive inspection?

 

Every company that has handled the vehicle is trying to push a claim off on someone else. The haulaway carrier that delivers to the dealer is the last set of hands to touch the unit, so you know who is getting stuck with a claim should it not be noted and signed off wherever the unit was loaded. At most railheads that I am aware of, if you move a unit out of bay, they will not sign off on damage. So don't think you can walk around a unit and then drive it up to the rail office for them to sign off...unless you already know of an agreement where this is OK. I know UPRR is not like that.

How long does it take? That is very subective. I know guys that take too long to load 9 w/o looking at the units. I know guy that can load (correctly) in 1/2 and never get tagged with an uncovered exception.
Develop a routine and speed will come. The trick is to eliminate all wasted motion.

 

Everyone tries to pass the buck the rails know about 90% of it but there not going to tell you.
And so on.
Loading as stated above varies from guy to guy some are slower then new guys. i mean like 2hrs + lol
and also even if you been hauling years if you change trucks and trailer type you will slow down alot the first few loads.
The sterling and cottrell setup ive been in now about 2yrs and I have loaded started to finish with no damage in 25 minutes but on avg 45m
I am getting older and dont try to kill myself like i use to, just stay at a steady pace and once you learn the truck and car types like a jig saw puzzle everything will come inluding speed.

Like with chevy ford chy etc you will know what units fit where and not even think about how to load it most of the time
