Thanks ethos, as a future tanker driver I really appreciate learning this type of information!

Just remember, its not your tank. It is just the tank your assigned. What you bring in is just what you bring in. If you bring in an empty dirty then why would you want to keep it? Then you would have to wait until it is cleaned and that would suck.

I'm not catching your drift here, ethos, what is it you want me to understand? I wouldn't EVER bring in an empty dirty to an OC, right? That would screw the next guy to haul that tank. My first priority after an unload (if that tank's next load isn't the same liquid as the last load, or if I'm going on time off) is to go to a tank wash, right?

There is a tank wash in the Houston yard. I assure you, you will drop many dirty trailers in Houston.

Also, your going to drop your tank at whatever wash they tell you and go from there. You may hook a clean one at the same wash or bob tail somewhere, who knows. Schneider knows when the tank is supposed to be washed. Of course sometimes the tank wash gets behind and your assigned tank is still dirty. If that happens you just call and get another one assigned, it is easy. Trust me when I say this is the last thing you need to be worried about. You personally will never make sure your dirty gets washed. You drop and forget it. It's not screwing the other guy, it's how it's done. Washing is a whole other sequence in tanking and one the driver rarely has a part in.

You never had to have a van washout? And, on the subject of Houston OC, if you can actually get in there with a van or tanker, good luck in finding someplace to park it. The last time we were there we were supposed to pick up a trailer and it wasnt there which didnt really matter anyway since there was no place to drop the trailer we had. After waiting all day for the driver to show up with our relay, we parked close to the building, across where some trailers were parked....it was the only place we could stop....we went to bed, and had some mechanic banging on our door at 12:30 telling us we had to move. He said there was a hole "over there" where we could put the trailer. Chris told him that the keys were in the ignition and if he wanted us moved so bad, to go ahead and move us himself. He left and came back twice (the last time was at 3AM). Chris finally got up and moved us....it wasnt much of a hole, and he was groggy, but he got it in. The next morning, we got out from under that trailer and found our relay and shoe horned it out of where it was.....it was just one big circle party. Its one OC I wont miss going to again.

They said that they were outsourcing Houston tank washing to Qualawash. Did they only give Qualawash a portion of their Houston business and the Houston wash is still operational? Just wondering because from the sound of it a couple months ago they should be creating some more room at the Houston OC if there are less dirty trailers being dropped there.

Well whether or not it is quala or Schneider it is still on the yard. I have no idea how this will turn out. I hope for the better. Parking can be rough.
