Started at .19 cents a mile or a guestimate $4+ an which was on the older logbook rules. With the new rules I make lots more.

I started out with Morabasa Logistics at $300 a week in 2010 driving team. In 2011, I started with Rife Carbonic p/t making a whopping $8.50 an hour doing driving (straight truck) and actual yard work. Not great jobs but they got me experience.

I'm sure DH started on old Pete's and a General, during harvest. Hell, I've even been in an Autocar. That was *my* experience. He got paid by the hour, during harvest, while he learned to drive, at 16. That's how I learned to drive, at 44. Don't discount learning how to drive and service, older, smaller trucks. There's something to be said about a truck that makes one stand, to shift gears. My husband's 379 with a gazillion pounds, on dirt roads, in CO, was NOT fun. I will never get a CDL. I have enough experience to know I don't want to drive. My father, mother and brother have been drivers.

I'd rather do yard work, programming, etc.

DH said his first "professional" driving experience was 3KB, in 1985. He made .23 to .25 a mile.

Yes as in mowing the lawn and maintaining the facility. The delivery truck I used was considered Class B.

.19 a mile must have been big money in 1980. I've talked to some old timers that drove for $.05 a mile in the sixties. That was a gold mine according to him. I must be spoiled.

I started driving on a chauffers in 1985.My first job was a 10 wheeler working for a Jewish Man the squecked when he walked. He owned a reusable diaper service. He made the diapers, shipped them and even cleaned them with these GIANT commercial washers and dryers,as big as a house.I would run the ''new'' ones out to customers and brought back the ''soils'' to the plant.

    I made 10.00/HR and anything over 40 was time in a half..I worked 55 hours a week.My BC/BS was 7.00 a week..Very nice plan back then.

I made 625.00 a week M-F weekends off.It was by far the best job i ever had in trucking.I was like a ''normal'' human being.I had a life and made good money. He closed the doors and went out of business...

I remember those days. Whats sad is 30 yrs later, they are still offering 10.00 hr for local driving jobs. And health insurance is 100.00 per week or more. Pathetic!!!!
