I enjoy being with Big Orange, I find the company fits me. You have to decide what fits you. Good luck.Striker26 Thanks this. -
Do your research, having a wife ad kids and looking at trucking is a but risky as far as your family time. I'm single, not married, college grad that couldn't find a job and didnt want to sit with my hands out so I went into trucking. Regardless sni treats it's drivers alot better than most big companies. It's equipment is questionable but it's improving carb regulations here in California are pushing out the old 05-07 centuries that are still around. Good luck in your search and thank you for your service!

Trucking is a huge industry and once one has experience there is many areas available to you for employment. This is one main reason I finally quit the work I was doing (construction related) and came out here. Got tired of getting laid off because the economy took a dive even when my sales and performance was better than the other guy or profitable still for the company. Having good work ethics and performing well doesn't seem to go as far in office environments got tired of the politics. That's just my experience of course but it is how I tick so had to change.
Out here they don't care what your personality is so much if you just perform, have integrity, respect and be safe you will be rewarded! It is not a status job but it is a good profession! heck! A lot of guys don't even perform well and have bad attitudes but they still keep there jobs. Drivers have also been in high demand sense I can remember.
For me, my son is out of the house so it is just wife and I. We have known each other long time and very good keeping long distance relation going. She was former military and comes from military family. I see her every few weeks and we plan for a couple times out of the year when she comes out and runs with me for a few weeks (she don't work). That has been working so far!
I did try trucking when I was younger and my son was just a boy and it got to difficult for me. So I quit and went back to what I was doing working a regular job and home everyday. Always loved driving a big truck though. Now sense I came back I knew what I was getting into and was mentally prepared and believe that made a big difference.
I truly believe you being military gives you an advantage because of your mental training and being away from home. That along will prepare you for this working environment.
I know I'm rambling here, but heck there is a lot I could tell ya! But going quit now. However I'll be around if you have questions will do my best to help! Just send a PM or whatever works for you.
BTW I believe SNI is the best choice for getting started and having a lasting career in this industry!
Have a good one!Dipschitt, knuckledragger and Striker26 Thank this. -
Ok made it over here to mid Ohio. Drove about 450 miles today. Not bad, but not as far as I wanted. Today was a bit slow going. Address for my pick up was not exactly correct and was sent on a wild goose chase around the block going to another location of the correct shipper but just wrong building. Finally got the right building and come to find out it was just across the street from where I originally drove to
My route so far has been riddled with construction zones, big city traffic and now on side roads and towns to avoid that god awful I 80 turnpike. No worries though will still make my delivery on time.
Now for the next few days have to keep my 10hr break to exactly 10 hours so I can get back on early schedule giving me plenty of time to pick up and deliver the future loads.
Guess we have some pretty bad storms coming through the Midwest this weekend so will have to weave my way through that. Hoping I will be far enough south before the bad stuff hits the Iowa area. Will have keep an eye on that for sure!

atruckr how long have you been running on the choice program? I've seen your snapshots not shabby. I ran on the program a couple of years back , but the ex wife was dx with cancer and I got off the road to help take care of the two little ones we have together. Now she's cancer free and I'm contiplating on getting back out there. Not sure if I can get back in with choice program , but left on really good terms with schneider so possible just curious on how the loads are right now and how the pay is thanks in advance

Been running choice little leas than 3 months now. Did a lot of research and made friends with IC drivers about a year before I started. That I think help me start off on right foot. Think I'm doing ok?. Load volume seems to have picked up a lot last month or so. Still have lots of cheap loads out there but you can usually get the good paying loads too. Takes a bit of planning but definitely worth every minute.
I would try get on board again! You might have to get some recent driving experience, probably in worse case.
I love it, and the wife likes those checks! Not that she gets any of it but .....
