does anybody know anyone than maverick that does'nt need a refresher course i have'nt drove in three years but maverick was going to hire me butttttttttttt in apirl of 2007 i was going to work early one morning in my personal own vehicle and was setting at a red light with no control of my own and was rear ended. then maverick told me after 3 weeks with no word and after i called them 2 times they said they ran my mvr that i showed on my application and told me that they couldn't hire me unless my so called wreck (that someone couldn't tell a red light from a green light) was a year old before they would consider me surely maverick isn't the only one that will hire you without a refresher course right? any info would be appreciated and save me about 3,000 bucks:biggrin_25519:

Sounds like horse feathers to me, I was just talking to a trucking company and after a car drove into my left rear tire and nearly totaled his car,(April 2007) after telling them it was not my fault, I had eyewitnesses, they did not even let me finish telling the story. I went to the next question. This may be a Mav. policy or it may be an unseen thing about something else.

Refresher courses suck. I had to pay for one at Central. Because I did not have the over the road experience, only local.
What is funny is that I learned more about dealing with clients driving local than many long time OTR drivers I have met. I have a firm rule, I do not do late. Unless it is a breakdown or a closed road that I could not have known about in advance, I can tell them within minutes what time I will arrive at the shipper/ receiver, at the time I get the load.
Driving local you are face to face with the managers and owners of these companys, as well as with the owners in many instances.
I did not learn a darn thing in the class, accept the new log rules, which I could have picked up with a little reading. I ended up using allot of my time teaching students how to back up and shift.
It is all paid off now, and I will do my best to never get into that situation again. It is just sad that I basically had to pay for driving school twice. Once in 1991 when I got my license and once last summer with a refresher.
