I'll take a 379exhd over anything, but I'm biased towards it for sure now that I've driven one. I love it, I see why guys like these trucks.

Some say its like an antique, so what? It looks beautiful. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Why change the long hood styling when it has been selling great since when, It first came out? Lol

As for resale, that's one reason I'd buy one, one look on truck paper and you'll see '98-'04 379exhd Pete's with 800k miles on them selling for $50-70k!!!!!

So I'll take a Pete, pay more for it, and enjoy the fact I bought what I wanted, not what I needed.

Some may say you'll spend so much more in fuel, well, I can get over 6mpg consistently, that's not much of a difference from the 6.8-7.2 my prostar got......

My buddy that has a few 379exhd's told me he gets .4 mpg better than his freightliner Columbia, that's a c15 twin turbo in the Pete vs a 12.7 Detroit in the Columbia, he has ifta reports showing it. He told me the Pete is way cooler than the Columbia and the resale value would make up for it on the back end if he were to get less mpg, but he doesn't, he makes good money with his trucks.

He told me if I drive my 379exhd right, then I can get decent mpg.

There is NO WAY that fuel economy comparison is accurate nor fair. Your compairing a cat to a Detroit. The fact that its a freightliner has nothing to do with that comparison. Throw a cat in that Pete and see where the numbers are. As for the trucks on truck paper. 98-04 for 50-70? Overpriced IMO. I even overpaid for my 2000 when I bought it. Should've paid 20 for it max. Although I will say I'm happy with the truck aside from the seat need a bostrom wide ride 2 low base high back. But paying 70k for an 04 Pete is outrageous I don't care if its been platinum overhauled or has a factory reman motor that's just highway robbery. Between Pete and kw I say kw is a nicer truck I wouldn't want one but I've been in both and kw has a nicer truck. Now then I have driven a freightliner before never again is all I can say. But Pete's are over priced. Your paying for a name. I priced out 2 emblems for my hood from peterbilt of council bluffs. They had 2 types the cheaper one was a whopping $100 and the higher priced one was $130. And not one of the people in there could tell me why they wanted so much for one of those emblems when they had stickers on them that said china! Simply told then I'd buy the $60 china ones from 4 state because their price was outrageous!!!

Well I would personally pay more for a name. Just like tonight I bought a new laptop, paid $3700 for it when I could get the same specd laptop for $1800. I wanted the name of the brand I bought plus he extra stuff it comes with.

I'll pay more for a Pete. But how is the comparison unfair?

A cat in a Pete vs a Detroit in a Columbia. Wouldn't mpg favor the Detroit? Both pulling the same type of trailers?

To be honest, if I can still make enough money to live comfortably, then I'll take the 379exhd.

Some guys are out here to make as much money as they can, me I'm simple. If I can make enough money to cover my bills and have some left over to live comfortably, then I'm fine with that. But I will never buy an aero hood truck just so I can make more money.

The last 379 I drove had 1.8 million on it & was still a fairly tight truck. At 550K my Freightliner dashboard is disintegrating into shards of plastic. A Peterbi;t is also more comfortable, you can slide the seat back into the sleeper, stretch out & cruise asopposed to feeling like a monkey on a football.

The quality difference is real, the comfort difference is real. Anybody who disagrees is living proof that ignorance is bliss.

I drove an aero T-2000 and I get the same mpg with the Pete I have now as I did with that truck and they both had the same engine, trans, rears, etc.

    I'm not seeing your point..

I swear man, some people act like an aero hood is the answer to any mpg gains. It's been proven time after time it doesn't matter what you drive, it's HOW you drive it. I'm sure I could get better than 6.2 out of this Pete if I didn't accelerate as fast as I like to (I love hearing that turbo and exhaust right in my ear).

I don't have a problem with people that like aero hoods, that's fine, to each his own, BUT when I hate when people get attitudes and think they are so much better because they get 1 mpg better than you. If I make a comfortable living driving a long nose Pete then why get a truck I don't want
