I got hired by Groendyke Transport. Main headquarters is in Enid, OK. I run out of a terminal in Bensalem, PA. I live 1 mile from the yard, so that is a nice plus. I could not be happier.
There is a tank wash in the same lot as out terminal. which is where I meet drivers from QC, Linden, and Indian River. The drivers from Q.C. said they have had a lot of things they got paid extra for taken away. Some guys are losing a couple hundred dollars a month. To be honest, the drivers actually did give me some specifics, but I was not paying enough attention. Sorry about that.
Look out for changes at Quality Carriers

QC is owned by a large Wall St. firm, so bottom line for them is all that counts.
I hear the Co. , on the whole , had more Rollovers , in the first two months of this year , than all of last year.
That's what comes from trying to fill seats. They take people with no tanker experience , and minumum driving experience , who are trying to make just in time deliveries , and , bang, you get what you deserve. The tanks are Expensive , the loads are Costly to clean up , the DOT starts harassing us , not my cup of tea. Not to mention , their "Safety" dept. has gone Bonkers.
Tanks and Snow and Ice , do not play well together.
I just Know I'll hear from some Rambo over that remark, but that's OK. Hope Rambo isn't in the same state I'm in , when he crashes. I've been at this to dang long , and have taken too many chances , when I was foolish , and the roads less crowded , to worry about it. -
Back when , QC decided to keep the FS for themselves , not give Any to O-O's. They lost so many Good O-O's , they reinstated it , but not fully.
Happy for you , with Groendyke . Hope you still feel that way in two years . Two seems to be the max , before the bloom comes off the rose. I've been with some for five or more , but there always seems to be a time when some little Squirt , with delusions of Grandeur , gets between you and your happy Life. Most times , you can't go thru , under , or around 'em , and its time to move on. -
With Groendyke, I have found that special combination that is so rare these days. The company itself is a solid company, both financially and morally, but also my terminal manager is all you could ever hope for in a boss. The deeper I look into this guy, the better he looks. Respect for his drivers, and an understanding attitude when a driver has something out of the ordinary they need. I am going to be 50 in a couple weeks, so I hope this dream come true lasts long enough to get me past 60.
It's a shame with Q.C. though. They have always been a company that I heard mostly good things about. Maybe 95% or so positive, but things seem to be on the way down. Now I would say I am hearing about 75%-80% negative. And these guys are not some young punks, you expect to have everything handed to them on a silver platter. These are older guys, with decades of driving experience, and over 10 years time with Q.C. You have to remember who is talking to you when you listen to comments about a company. I trust the older drivers 10 times over what I trust a driver with 01 years or less experience.
Like you for instance. Without even checking your profile, I could tell you were an old time trucker. Even when you say something negative, it's done in a plain, easy going way. Like you, I have found that getting all worked up doesn't do much good, so you just tell it like it is, in a calm voice. -

I used to pull for the QC affiliate in Joliet, Illinois. It was a great little terminal, I was actually a company driver for the affiliate, not QC.
I noticed this week actually that that QC terminal on Terry Drive, is now a Highway Transport Terminal. So it appears that maybe Nick sold it to them. They had a lot of great business. I really enjoyed working for them, great folks...and never would have left had I not gotten Married and gotten off the road.
I'm soon going to be retiring from the Post Office, Wouldn't mind getting back into tanking...I going down there today and check out what the heck is going on. -

Rut ro
My terminal just purchased 10 new trailers. Terminal I'm at has some good accounts.....for now.
Thanks for the info
As a truck driver it is Always a good idea to keep an updated resume/work history. And 6 months wages in mason jars in the yard, 8 paces from the big tree.pathfinder1361 Thanks this. -
Well I was wrong, I went and checked the Joliet Terminal for Midwest Services QC...they had about 8 brand new Macks sitting there. So they are still running strong. It appears they leased part of the building out to Highway Transport.
