Reddaway is still hiring like crazy down here in southern California. Or trying to anyway. No one stays here very long. I'd say maybe 1 out of 10 guys. I wish some of them would stay so I could have an effin break. This owner of a small trucking company offered me a dedicated run, 4 days out and 3 days off $1200 a week. Brand new Volvo's governed at 78 mph, pulling for UPS Freight. It's teams but I am seriously considering it. I have to say that Reddaway is pretty unorganized down here. Getting kind of irritated with them!

haha well im lucky the gf isnt high maintence or that expensive. Then again she lived in Croatia half her life until she met her father here and decided to live in the states (long long story). Friday night is our night, usually every other friday is date night, then the others we hang out with other friends but have to be together. Into all the sme stuff I am like 4 wheelers, boats, jumping on the bike, cars, heck she even helps work on my car which normally is me teaching her everything LOL. Im glad my friend who is a complete flaming you know what set us up lol... deff paid off still being friends with him when he finally came out, others stopped because of it. whatever though, your gay, a different race, religion etc, doesnt matter to me, friends are friends

Although Im on bid my runs change every day. My bid consists of 19 terminals, all fairly close. Either I will turn one of then and go back to terminal 123, or they will send me out on combos to others making a day out of it. 75% of the time when I do those 350-500 mile combos I usually get a fairly good truck. We have 3 bids though that have guys do a 145, 187, and a 104 run every night for the first half, then go back and do whatever 2nd half they can get. Then we got the long turns which means going out far like 200+ miles and turning that. There are a few runs they have that do the same run every night. Same with the layovers. I dont think I could every do the same run every day. the 19 I run is good for me, about 8 of them know me by first name as well so thats good, I like my bid because I can normally plan things on my set days off which works out good.

On the extra board I have to run 6 trips before I can take time off, and some times I would work every other day. Only good thing was we can book off 24-60 hours off after that 6th trip. If we chose too we can even end our break early and return to work early. I never did though lol. Also with my bid and the extra board, we can take 1-4 hours extended on our breaks. They way my bid works is 7am start time every sunday, and I am supposed to be called on break every day until finished but they always make me sit all day monday until 8pm normally. Yes I know the shop steward is trying to fix it, they like to hold for the time start guys but in the end it screws us because the night sunday guys have more senority and then get called before us on mondays. then the rest of the week we go on break...

I will say I have seen a lot of new guys come and go here as well because a lot of these guys come in, realize they have to drive at night and freak out and quit. I know the only OTR guy I knew there was Bucky, and hes still here with us, just very happy to have the job nd doesnt care what time or where they send him. There another new guy who worked delivering to Mcdonalds, all at night as well so it doesnt bother him the least bit. Dont know why these OTR guys all call it a night at sundown, heck you cant find a spot at any rest stop or truck stop, theres guys out in the street and sides of the highwau

4 days out and 3 off isnt too bad, money aint bad either but what about all the benefits though. Yea dont get me wrong, I like YRC, ove what I do but cant stand our management we have, all clueless and rats. HEck I have had to file 2 grievances already. UPSF uses sub-contractors? Surprised the teamsters allow them too. I know with us, they refuse to let the sub-contractors pull our freight, although we do use the rail yard A LOT, the teamsters dont mind as Norfolk Southern is union as well... It is nice if we are waiting for trailers to be unloaded, and theres tons of trucks, they will always no matter what come to us first and get us off, my shop steward said its because we are union as well, and the other companies they arent in a rush.

78mph pulling doubles just sounds a lil crazy to me, when I get a truck that does 70 with them I feel a lil uneasy, now 75 with a van is no problem to me

Yeah, when I go down hill with a set, I'm cool up to 70, then I get nervous over that.

Yup, I also know I make turns slower than I probably could. I'm also looking out that mirror. lol Last week I was in a gravel parking lot with HUGE pot holes & even that made me nervous. lol
Anyway, I'm off to Memphis, TN.

Sounds like you have things set up nice. When I got my first trucking job it was doubles with a fleet owner at north american van lines. His trucks did 78 as well. Heck most of my jobs I had trucks that did 80+. No problem for me. Also it's different when you have a bigger truck hooked to them. Rides a lot smoother and doesn't feel like it's falling apart. Of course I only do 78 in states where I can, oops, oh I mean 75. Parts of Texas you can go 80 or 85? Can't really remember. Yes UPSF uses a lot of outside carriers. They use all the good ones too lol like US Xpress, CRST, Swift, etc. There are a few small companies too and they pay better. As far as benefits go, I don't need them since I'm covered under my wife. I can roll my 401k (that Reddaway doesn't contribute to and automatically enrolled me in) into an IRA until I get another job with a 401k. If I worked for the real YRC, I wouldn't think about leaving. They were way better.

Reddaway is good too but I'm so bored of running California. I can barely keep my eyes open anymore. Double nickel through here and it just takes so long to get anywhere. One of the few states that still has a split speed limit for trucks and it is still 55! I mean once you get over the Grapevine, there is nothing for miles! They should at least allow us to go 70 out there. I think a lot of my problem is I hate California. Born and raised here but it has never felt like home to me. Whenever I'm down in the southern states I feel like I belong. Feel like I can breath too! The wife and I have made up our minds to move to Tennessee. I can't wait either. I'll go back to ltl once we move. Then again there are so many different opportunities down there in trucking. Another 3 years to go. One daughter will be graduating college and the other high school. Then I'll be running from this over populated, hippie loving state!

As far as greivences go, I have no union to support me. They treat me and the others pretty good and I think that's why no one cares to vote the union in. Doesn't seem to matter much though cause the union guys seem to get the same pay and free benefits as we do. Fontana went union and I never had a problem with them at all, always real helpful. It's the people in Portland that always have things messed up. Or they don't communicate with each other. Not bad but it is annoying at times. The equipment I drive is just ridiculous and that is another big deal to me. Driving ltl is no fun if you are not comfortable doing it. Sometimes I can barely sleep cause my neck and back hurt so bad. No to mention the roads getting out of Los Angeles, you're lucky if the truck makes it back in one piece. I'm probably not going anywhere guys. I'm thinking about it though. Just comes down to personal preferance, I guess. I guess I should start driving again. Catch y'all later.

Did they ever get the pay scales settled for YRC and ABF and if they did what are they right now? Both city and line haul.

Yea I do the same, also the northeast is famous for pot-holes, I had one trailer leaning to the side last week and was scared for my life lol, thankfully it made it. The other day I had a 20k lead and 19k kite, a truck with no eng brake, and a single screw. a 1.5 hour drive took me over 2 hours through the mountains, but the guy who came after me had a 11k lead and 5k rear... now that was stupid, the couldve mixed the trailers, up. When I got off the highway the brakes were smoking like crazy, I mean BADDDDD. They stunk up the whole yard

I would like to leave NY. Go to either PA, or NC. Only problem is if i do marry this girl I know she would never ever want to move away from her family so I would be SOL. I wouldnt mind moving into my dads house though, its fairly cheap in NY and would only be 10 miles from the terminal there. Im waiting for them to get another road position before I make the move, this way at least for now I would just stay at my dads, and if I get married I get the house lol.

Tennessee? Must be cheap there, with your money youd be able to get a nice big place! We do have a distribution terminal in NAshville so at least theres an option for you. im sure yur daughters wouldnt be too happy though...

UPSF im surprised they use outside carriers, I know they dont with us or ABF. With ABF they are trying to make it so they can sub out. I dont agree with subbing out as it makes your own not working. Look at CWF and Fedex, majority of their freight is subbed out, i remember at the bihs at CWF it looked like a CRST, Werner, Multi-Group logistics yard over a CW yard
