The only way to get trained without potential debt is with a Federal grant and I doubt you qualify for one .
If your pay isn't making it now how are you going to make it with 4 to 6 weeks unpaid CDL training then 4 to 6 weeks trainee pay at $300 a week ?
There is no guarantee you won't get rejected at orientation . A high percentage of wannabes do . More get booted out of the truck by a trainer .
If you are anywhere near as intelligent as you claim to be you will see trying to be a driver is a foolish decision

Aw come on Pattyj , you know the thousands that have come and left resulting in turnover 100% include many that came in with a positive attitude . It takes more than attitude to make it .
CDL mills give you time to make 4 or 5 attempts to pass a road test . Carriers don't often give second chances .

Alot depends where you go.I learned at a college. They helped their students achieve a positive attitude. But you go to mills and what not, those intuctors are their only for the paycheck and probably dread going to work everyday. Then my first trainer at werner was a good one but had to take a LOA before I finished so then I got stuck with a bad trainer.

Perhaps your kids could help you raise the tuition money to send you to truck driving school.

Perhaps you could get a temporary roofing job to come up with tuition money for a truck driving school. Also, if there is any extra money left over, try to pay off as many bills as possible to get that financial stress off of your shoulders. If you are going to drive professionally, you want to be as stress free as possible.

I work as a retail clerk at a company similar to Walmart. There is nothing wrong with that. It is an honest job with an honest days pay. I will admit that I am still making single digit wages after completing 6 years on the job. However, I thank the good Lord upstairs for this retail job. By the time my MVR is totally cleaned up, I will have about 10 years on the job, providing that I do NOT get laid off or terminated. I am also trying to stay free of any and all traffic accidents and traffic violations.

I am currently trying ro clean up my MVR, trying to get healthy and physically fit, and eventually learn to drive a truck, to go SOLO over the road. I am currently 56, will be 57 this year. I have never married and have no children. Sadly and unfortunately, both of my parents are deceased.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

I was gonna let a "sleeping dog" lie, but just to address the prior condemners..
I DO NOT want to turn this thread into a pet issue,, and won't,, but just one post from me to speak my piece.
All the OP said was that she loved her dogs and could not see giving them up,, not for OTR, and obviously not having to give them up for any job (or "lifestyle"). I commend her for that! Nothing says she "babies them" or is wacko about them. She cares for and loves them. I'm attached to my mine also. Sadly it seems too hard for some to accept. Noone cares about any fellow man/woman nor beast anymore. The me-me-me world seems to be taking over.

She is at the initial beginning stages of pursuing "truck driving". She (and her pets) may work out well with a linehaul run or other local home everynight trucking job. I wish her well for something like that. NO need for her to head to WalMart, Costco, Saks Fifth Avenue, or whatever!

It seems everybody forgot what stress is like. "Posive attitude? It seems this girl is being tramped! How many guys and gals here can stand at a door way, in a C130, on a static line, with 60 lbs of gear and ammo and JUMP???? "Postive Attitude"?? Come boys, give her a break!
