I was never at Landstar but other day met a another driver who use to work there and now is here at SNI. Not sure why he left but he likes it better here. Not much help but that is what might have you thinking I was at LS previously. -
Having been leased to landstar I can tell you that brokers can be sleazy...and it takes like a year and a half to learn who the good trustworthy agents were. Rates were all over the board, if you asked about fsc what you would usually hear was, "oh that's built into the rate". I was leased there for 2 years.
Trust me when I say you guys have a great program in Choice.atruckr and txdirtroad Thank this. -
Anybody use the Shorepower system?

Yeah will try to give ya the recent Laredo run lowdown..
I came down here (Laredo) on an heavy load out of VA off home time and trying to get to Cali so kinda have to take what I can. It paid little over $1800 revenue to the truck. With one short load before home time and one short load after home time to VA so I could get the Laredo load. Ended that week with about $450 to my pocket after truck note, fuel and truck Ins, health ins, and misc general savings and base plates. Not great but considering I took 2 days off and negotiated loads to get to Laredo, no complaints.
Now once in Laredo unfortunately there were no Cali loads (which was unusual to me) so decided to go ahead and run the truck hard (sort of) for another week and maybe catch a load to cali next week. Only ran 2 loads this week grabbing a load from Laredo to Wisconsin paying revenue to the truck at little over $2000 then grabbed a load out of WI 70 mi from drop coming back down paying revenue of about $2450. Total revenue to the truck about $4450 and out of that should bring home before taxes about $1500 to $1600 for this week.
Not sure if that was what your looking for but can you tell us how that might compare to Landstar based on what you saw?Last edited: Jun 18, 2013

I understand Landstar's exclusive freight doesn't hit the load board, most times agents call their favorite bcos and offer to them, what I saw on the board were many loads that paid 2 bucks and under keep in mind they haven't taken their cut. There was one that paid 2.94 35000 weight to Indianapolis, three loads that paid 2.64 42800 weight hazmat to Va and many 2.25 42000 weight going just about anywhere some of these had the fuel surcharge included some didn't. One will only see the load board as you start until you can get a few good agents

Still working my why to Cali. Originally the plan was to pick the wife up and probably take about week or so to get Cali, visit friends and family and leave the wife behind so she can have some extended visit time with her sis and fly back home. Well because of time of year or the way market flows for whatever reason loads to CA have been an evasive adventure. Now to add even more to the mix my sister has become very ill and I'm needing to get there to see her.
Last Monday we started out with a load to KS so I could grab a load out there going to CA and everything was good. Well not so fast! while loading in Laredo to take the KS load, my CA load got canceledNormally that wouldn't bother me much but because I'm trying to get somewhere and my sisters health is weighing on me it upset me a bit. I let SNI I wasn't very pleased. But of course that doesn't matter much, your on your own to get where your going. They couldn't take the KS load off me so I could find something else and it just really got me upset for a brief while. Not long tho, once I came to my senses and realized that is why I like being an IC the freedom and challenge go together out here and sometimes you just got to suck it up, stay focused, get your job done safely and move on!
So currently I found a load out of IA to AZ and that should put me in position to get to Cali.
It is working out, but this weeks pay won't be good because of the cancelled load, time spent on these loads and deadhead I had to run made the current load cheap because it was not a high payer to begin with. However it gets me where I need to be and that is important. Certainly will make better at another time but my family is important and I need to be there. Good news is I will still be in the positive this week, no zero!
Just my experience and thought process for others to benefit!
Roll On!txdirtroad Thanks this. -
