My optimism was not in vain! Had some trouble getting an mt coming off home time, but now I'm rolling, and I'm booked through Sunday. My loads CAN'T be overweight since the heaviest is 37k (famous last words). That 5.5 day stretch was just what I needed. BBQ, steak, lots of beer, and now I'm ready to run again. It's like a reset switch.

Well I had an interesting past couple days....

First we needed to be From Gonzalas, CA to Bessemer City, NC in 48 hours. So we both did 10 1/2 hour shifts back to back till we got there. Then got a load from NC to Walmart in wintersville, OH. By then, our hours were shot. I had 2 left, only getting back 6 the next day. 7 next. He had 20 hours, nothing coming back for 3 days. So we let our substitute DM know(our current DM is on vacation) that we needed a 34 reset. She told us we could not take a 34 because she was finding us a load. Well, my trainer said we will wait 3 hours and if we dont have a load, will DH to my house, 3 hours from wallyworld. 3 hours came along, nothing. So we sent her a message saying since there was no load, taking a 34 here, be available at this time. Got a message back saying, OK whatever.

Well got back in the truck this morning, had a load picking up in Indianapolis at 1100, not delivering in vegas until Monday morning. So my trainer talked to the DM, asked if we are dropping it somewhere so we arent sitting on this for 3 days. She said, not that I know of. So on our way to Indi, i was talking to my trainer, and he said, Im surprised youre not calling Drivers resources and asking them, is this what Im supposed to expect when I upgrade. I told him I was, and thought about calling. Well as I was getting ready to call. Our load got adjusted so now we have to be in ND by tomorrow at 1800 and still not delivering in Bakersfield, CA till monday. But atleast ND shaves off a day. And now we can go to WVC on the way. so he can go home for a bit. So its a little better, but not much.

So then I called and talked to Garry in training. He didnt seem too concerned about me being leary about how Im going to get treated. He was just more surprised that I was told that I couldnt take a 34 reset. But I didnt realize before hand that he was in training, I thought he was in drivers resources. So now Im thinking of calling and talking to Bill or Carl in Drivers Resources and just saying, we got the load taken care of, but still, noone answered me, am I supposed to expect DMs like this when coming to you guys? Am I going to be treated like crap for taking a 34? Thinking about calling, not sure yet.

Woohoo I got to do my job today!!!! I don't know about some of these drivers. I had one call me today and ask for 3 days off, because she had been out for 10 days and was feeling "Burnt out" Could you guys imagine asking your DM for 3 days off after 10 days out? I ran weeks and only took a day or two off. I got a complaint from her because I laughed at her. I thought she was kidding...oops.

The more frequently you get home the harder it is to stay out. At my old job I was out 5-6 days at a time. About twice a year we would get slammed and stay out 13 days. Those 13 day trips were harder than my 4 month trip from nov to mar. I don't know why this is, but its been my observation.

When I worked at central i was getting driven into the ground. My dm, jim hart, was constantly giving me back to back very tight timing loads and i was constantly running out of hours on the 70. Then when i ran out of 70 he expected me to get up every night at midnight and drive the hours that i got back from the recap. Then when i told jim hart that i was going to work somewhere else, he got all pissed off and started going off on how i told him that i was quitting right after a payday, which wasn't true. He said "that says a lot about your character" which was in itself ironic because i was always nice to him but he was allowed to chew me out.

I talked to Julie in driver's services. she said that should of never happened. and if I got a DM like that when I upgraded. give her a call again. Good thing is the substitute DM only does a dedicated team route. so I will never have to deal with her again. She should of known better to give a trainer with a student a load that sits for 3 days. Julie agreed and will talk to her boss about that and the fact that we were told we weren't allowed to take a 34 when we weren't even attached to a load. I feel a little more comfortable with the whole thing and central. hopefully Julie keeps her word and helps again if I have any problems in the future.

Well for now. On our way to crswvc. Be there tonight. and tomorrow. back there to upgrade on the 8th.
