Has nothing to do with ''fear'' and emotional issues Cowpie..It has to do with ''freedom'' and not wanting to be babysat like a dumb brainless child...Nothing more nothing less...Some of us want to be treated as a self thinking, dependable, competent honest professional driver..

They are liked by those in government, in fact so much so they're mandating them....

Probably has something to do with writing citations, you know, when guys who get stuck at a shipper and the 14 hr window closes and then they drive for an hour to a safe haven....

If you don't think this will happen then you are more trusting of our government than I am...

And we understand what the intentions are....

It is being advertised as a safety measure.

I see it being a revenue collection tool.

It doesn't make any sense to have an EOBR, (which monitors truck position and time spent moving, and not moving), if the operator can change all of the recorded data at will and on a whim...

Once the regulation is in place the screws will be tightened down by those who seek to extract money.....

Kinda like those red light cameras, what a nifty idea they were, right???

There's an "Off Duty Driving" option. The ones we had, Qualcomm, could sense if your pigtail was plugged into your trailer.

I have used both and I never lie or cheat on my paper logs but it sure does make it alot easier to get the most benefit out of the time you spend driving than you do on e logs. Not to mention the rate of error was 0 on paper compared to alot more on elogs since the system would go down at any time.. theyd ask us to use paper logs and we would do so for a few hours then back on and say ok resume elogs like come on man what the hell? Am i supposed to drive or sit there all day long trying to coordinate my elogs with paper logs so I don't get screwed at the next dot stop? Stupid

I like electronic - it's accurate and consistent. It's a consistent pain, too, but forgetting where I stopped, or what time it was, trying to enter every single change of duty as they occur are more of a pain. Also, electronic is more flexible than it may seem. Remember, all data can be massaged.

Bottom line on EOBR's in my opinion is similar to helmet laws in states that don't require them......."let those who ride decide."

As long as your junk is legal, you should be able to fulfill the recording of a driver's duty status and hours of service by any means you wish. The new generation might like the electronic devices doing "all of the thinking" for them, while the rest of us who have mastered coloring INSIDE of the lines, prefer paper.

My personal opinion is that we should have completely eliminated the log books years ago, and simply made stricter consequences for bad actions. If you've been out here on the road for a decade without getting speeding tickets, being involved in an accident or whatever, obviously you are either one lucky SOB or you are a professional driver. I mean seriously, if the whole point is safety, then why not just increase the consequences for unsafe behavior? Three strikes and you're out kind of thing, or whatever.

Changing log book rules, or changing how the data is recorded is nothing new. We do the same job today that we've always done, we just change how we record it.

If we did this, we would eliminate steering wheel holders quickly, thus bringing down the number of trucks on the roads, which would increase the competition for available trucks with professional drivers, which would bring rates back in line with where they should be, which would....you get the idea. Oh, but now we get into the politics of this business.......kaboom! There went all logical thinking.
