This is the door on my last one. The gap at the bottom is for airflow into the generator. It sits a little high to allow the exhaust gases to escape over the frame rail, instead of hitting the frame rail and being trapped, possibly choking the generator.
I also just installed a wireless remote start/stop for the Honda, which makes is VERY nice and easy to use. It comes with a servo to operate the choke too, so there is no touching anything on the generator to fire it up or shut it down.

Left it on my last rig when I traded it in on the Star Car.

It was made for the EU3000is, so only works with that one I guess. I have never looked for any other makes, as the Honda is the best out there in my experience.
I can get @12hrs of AC for 2 gallons of gas, all the time not even hearing the generator run. Last one had over 1300 hrs on it, and never missed a beat. Break even point for me was @600hrs of generator runtime. That included the rooftop ac, wiring, breaker box, generator, steel for brackets, and so on.

would love to get a Honda but $2700 is too much. I was thinking of getting the Yamaha ef2400 for $1300. I heard it would be strong enough to support a portable ac

EU3000is is $1999 anywhere. I got my last one at Northern Tool, one before at a local Honda dealer for $1900 even.

    I gotta ask....

By the time you got ALL your stuff bought, the Honda Genset and the AC units, etc.

    What was your final cost?

And how many hours have you invested in fabricating this unit?

someone told me the two brands are like 1a and 1b but if Yamaha is equal I can save me few hundred $ and buy it when I go back to Oregon (no sales tax) and save even more.

A day in making stuff, just under $3k all in, including the battery charger, ac, heater, and so on. So roughly a third of what a diesel APU costs, and under 200lbs vs over 5-600lbs, and no under bunk room lost for the HVAC unit. The gas ones are also more reliable from my research.

From my reading, and NOT experience, the Honda has the better windings, making them more reliable. They also offer the best warranty, 3yrs commercial or residential, and have the most dealers. The Yamaha uses the battery for an extra boost IIRC, where the Honda just uses its inverter. I can run the heater inside, and a block heater, at the same time in winter..
Like I say though, doing anything is better than nothing when it comes to saving fuel.
