I will post this one job I had that was a ltl company but they were hauling their own products. I leave out Monday Night and make up to 19 drops, and deadhead back home and home most cases by Friday night. Only once was I out over the weekend but that was due to Crane break down and getting sick on the road.

I did have to unload my self which was no problem they provided a crane on the trailer (FlatBed) to unload with. If the customer not around when I delivered I signed the bills my self and left a copy for them. If an issue came up with a product I may end up picking it back up the next week run. Once I dropped one at the wrong location next week loaded it back on and made a special stop to drop it where it was suppose to been delivered. No Problem. Another time Another driver delivered a piece and chipped it so I had to pick it up the following week and bring it back to be repaired. That last piece was to heavy for my small crane.

I could unload anytime day or night, and most of the residence did not complain, since they were 6 feet under.

I made good money and home more than with any other company. Cons I can not think of any.. Unless you were spoke working for the dead.

I take express mail and first class mail back and forth from the downtown DC to the airport.

Starting pay is $18.95/hr. Cap is around $30/hr.

    *edit

    To elaborate further on pay,

Its not just the straight pay you can bank on. If you work between 1800 and 0600, you get night differential pay, which adds $1.80 - $3.75/hr depending on your pay level and step. If your run is scheduled to work on Sundays, you get Sunday premium, which adds 25% of your hourly wage. if your run is scheduled for saturday and sunday, you get double sunday, which means you also get sunday premium on saturday. So, in essence if you're at a pay cap you can potentially earn $80/hr+ on OT and other premiums. In other words its easy to make six figures here.

With ODFL for 6 years now, team with wife, 2 days off a week, 170k a year, no problems getting extra time off, will never return to OTR reefer work.
55 hours a week gets a bit tiring, but we've paid off 4 houses and 2 cars working here, may be able to find something part time soon.
I feel sorry for drivers in the industry that have driven for years got low paying carriers, but very few people ask me about working here, or seem afraid of doubles, or can't be bothered with a hazmat endorsement.

The issue is that people think its impossible to make over 75k a year driving for someone else, let alone six figures. Little do people know that this is completely false, only the good employers are hard to find as they remain hidden right under their noses.

I started at ODFL a couple weeks ago. Pretty impressed with them so far actually. They hire right out of driving school...wasn't aware of that. Most LTL's want a year of experience before they'll cut you loose, but OD does driver trainers similar to how the OTR companies do. (Except you don't have to sleep on top of each other at the end of they day.)

Glad you got on board with OD. Everyone keeps telling me that they are one of the better ones to get on board with. What are they starting you guys out at? What are some of the benefits?

Rather you are union our non-union is not important. We all do the same job, we drive. I have been with Reddaway for now on 18 yrs and have been driving truck ( long-haul, local and regional ) for now on 35 yrs +. Every time that I get into a truck it's a new experience. Rather it be the equipment, weather, traffic, road construction. It's never the same, it's a new day. I learn something new and different every day. I've learned a lot from older drivers and and the new drivers.
To that I thank all of you.

They start new-newbies at $20/hr but gave me $21 since I've been driving a couple years. Top is $24.93. Paid weekly and OT after 40, at least in WA state. Bennies I'm not sure. I signed up for medical/dental/vision but can't recall how much for a single person. It was reasonable.

They put me with a guy for a few days to learn the data entry stuff and how to do the paperwork. Slip seated for a week but they assigned me a truck last week. It's an old line rig with a ton of miles but it's got a C13 Cat that can still pull. Transmission shifts nice, A/C works, and it's very clean inside. Somebody took nice care of it. Most of their equipment is very nice in general though.
