BLF123 I am sure that having a good clean MVR and a stable work history are probably two of the most important things they look for. That coupled with the minimum requirements. Once they reach a certain amount of applicants, they will start combing through the apps and selecting the ones the fit the criteria they are looking for. If you have the minimum and a clean record and such, you should here from them in about a month or so. Wal~mart really takes their time to make sure every person that they will see should be the right person. When they call you to schedule an interview, its very personable. If you have time check out my thread I started. Its all about from applying to getting hired.

Hello...
I just had my telephone interview for a position in Texas. I was told I passed and would receive a call from the safety department at the yard I'm applying too within the next week. I got the call within about 3 hours and they scheduled me for next Week. I'm travel ingfrom accross the country because its the location my wife wanted to move before she gave up on me and filed for divorceAnyway, since her leaving, I got this call. I am very hopeful I get through this process quickly and even though my friends think I am an idiot, I want to be able to say, Now I will have a good job, in the city you want to live in, do you want to talk things over? At least I will know everything was done to save my marriage. If she doesn't then, I will continue with my new life with Walmart and enjoy my city, at least until the transfer comes in in a year.
I understand the pre-trip is paramount, I will read and read until then to master it. I'm not to concerned about street driving as I do that without issue everyday. Backing concerns me a little. I dock bump pretty much everyday as I currently work for a short haul carrier, but I still always worry I don't do it well enough. I find myself having to correct my trailer more often than some of the other drivers do. I drove tankers for years and only been dock bumping for about a year. I can do it without hitting things, but I am a little slower than some others.
Any thoughts? -
You have to be perfect to drive for those guys at Wal Mart
Wish I could fit in there -
You don't need to be perfect, you can take your time and make corrections as needed, you just can't hit anything. It's NOT a speed test! They don't care how FAST you do the job, it's all about how SAFE you do it.
Extreme4x4, Voyager1968, TomOfTx and 1 other person Thank this. -
OK, thats what I had hoped. It might take me 20+ mins to get into a spot. I"m sure they don't care to hear my reasons
Tanker drivers don't back into tight spots, but we can get through dirt trails, under cement plants and all other sorts of weird places.
Thanks for the reply. -
Well 20 minutes would be a bit extreme, they'd probably throw you out of the truck LOL. Hopefully you're joking about that, but you can make several corrections/pull ups. By all means, practice when you can. The better you do on the backing part of the test, the less pressure you'll be under for the road test but like I said, as long as you don't hit anything you'll be fine.

Would WM be interested in a guy that is in his late 50s?

Absolutely. I talked to a guy who got hired last February, in his 60s. There are NO AGE LIMITATIONS. MOST drivers hired are older.
