That sucks Dewey, but that is a great idea to go on duty for 15 minutes if you know the future holds a reset. I hadn't thought about that trick.

What is your criteria when looking at a load? My hubby and I are going to orientation next month and looking for all the hints/tricks we can get.

Most revenue for the least miles, then weight, then freight conditions at the destination, then double check agent isn't on my do not haul list, make sure the load will fit into my home time plan if I'm out running OTR, if not check airline tickets from destination airport if its big $$$. You'll have to figure out your strategy, but number 1 is the most important. You need to use google maps or the like and add I the deadhead miles to get the real miles on the load. Of you're new at dispatching yourself, it can take a little longer than someone like me who has been doing it for a decade, but you'll get faster.

You better learn..Trucking represents ''freedom''...Your Government hates people that are free. They want to mold you into a modern day slave and control your ever move to the SECOND..Just Saying.

That's one thing I've learned about the trucking industry. Those dispatchers will do anything to get you to pull a load. Being nice or a butt kisser will put you in the poor house. You'll be sitting at a dock somewhere on the weekends while the hot head that nobody likes is siting at home with a beer in his hand watching football and counting his money. I've learned how to say no. DONT PULL CHEAP FREIGHT! good paying freight that takes you to the dead parts of the country is cheap freight also.

Do you have a set of numbers your working with? Idealy you should have a number that represents what its costing you to run your truck per mile. This number should be all your fixed as well as variable costs but should not include your costs back home. Your costs back home will come out of the profit you have after you pay your business expenses. If you do things right you should see plenty of profit. It sounds like a no brainer and you my have your numbers but alot of people especially new O/O's dont.
