I've been driving regionally for about 5 months and that's all the experience I have. I'm tired of inconsistent paychecks... one week being good and the next not. So I applied and got offered a job driving a straight truck for Ashley Furniture. Does anyone know anything about them? Maybe this gets my foot in the door for their regional position? I'll be home every night. It only starts at $12 an hour then jumps to $14 after three months. But they make 8-10 stops a day and receive tips at almost all stops.. sometimes $20-100 . I'm just hoping I'm making the right decision. Does anyone have feedback about this company?

Don't do it man, save your back its not worth $14 an hour. There is some heavy furniture out there you have to carry to second or third floor... JMO
Now if you can get a job driving a big truck and delivering to their stores than it might be worth it...

agree with ^^^ that's to tough stuff. pules its a straight truck so if you dont like it other companies require one year tractor trailer experience. so at least wait one year before jumping ship.

It probably wouldn't hurt to get your foot in the door driving regional for them. Would you be driving for Ashley Distribution or for one of the Home Stores? The Home Stores are franchised and not Ashley Distribution. LTL pay is really good, but you have to have a lot of driving experience and a very clean driving record. They say "one year" driving experience, but with what they pay and their equipment, most of their applicants have several more years. Very low turnover rate too. But, nothing ventured, nothing gained eh?

Well if I don't like it I will go back to my regional job. Will that restart my one year experience if I take a break then come back?

I drove a big truck for Ashley out of Arcadia for seven months. It's a tough job and there's NO WAY I'd do it for only $12/hr.

I decided not to do it. Plus I would rather drive a big rig than a straight truck. I was just looking to be home every night but idk if it would have been worth it

Just keep looking for a local opening while you're driving there... Someone will eventually call you. Keep applying to companies you wanna drive for

I'm an LTL driver... THE MONEY IS UNREAL! The benefits... TOP NOTCH! Typically, i'm home every night, off EVERY weekend! Every now and then I may stay out over night.... RARELY! The work is very physical, but i'm in shape, so it doesn't bother me! Is it a perfect company? Hell no! My guy made $94,000 last year... i'm on pace for $88,000! You do the math! It took me six months to get this job and I ain't leavin'!

Try Craigslist for local trucking jobs. Apply/Call ones that say one to two years experience. Eventually, you'll find one that will give you a chance.
