Yes they record 24 hours a day on a loop overwriting every 30 seconds or so.
If nothing triggers the save mode then whatever was recorded is viewed by no one and overwritten/erased.
They can send clips that are stored and not overwritten to third party analyzers and the company.
The trigger that results in the recorded loop being saved and not erased is an anomaly as measured by accelerometers.
If nothing odd is going on in the truck absolutely no one will ever view the recorded bit as it will be erased less then 30 seconds after it is recorded.
I have trucks that have not sent a 24 second bit in 6 months.

Just for the record we have the Drivecam installed in our trucks.
I think the recording quality is pathetic.
The software is horrible and terribly thought out.
Their service is poor.
Their evaluation and reporting on viewed clips shows their staff are bored totally inexperienced. -

There's a few things that need to be remembered.....
One, there are 800+ trucks in our fleet (that's an estimate) and there are 100 cameras installed as a test. Ii have not heard whether or. Not they will be in every truck. I know a lot of people in this discussion claim to have the "inside track", and maybe they do, but it seems prudent to me to wait to see what the company actually decides before any rash decisions are made.
Two. The name on the door of the truck is Millis Transfer. If they want to put a blind, one-legged chimp in each truck, they have every right to do so. On the other side of the coin, if they decide to pay you. 75 cents a mile and give you 3500 miles a week and you don't like it...you can go to work elsewhere. No one can force you to work where you don't want to.
Three. If they do put cameras in each truck, ask questions of those that made that decision. Get the real info, not what you heard, what a buddy told you, or what you read on the internet. Send Mike Millis a message with any questions you have. Be pretty tough to embellish if several hundred drivers ask the same questions.
Four. I finished training in a truck with the cameras. You'd be amazed how quickly you forget they are even there, and the curtains that are in every truck covers the cameras nicely at night. Do your job correctly and safely. Don't talk on the phone in heavy traffic, construction, bad weather, or any other of the hundreds of circumstances when we need to be focused. Don't reach back for a drink when you are moving. Prepare for your trip and exercise some common sense. I'll repeat an earlier post (paraphrasing) don't do anything stupid and there will be nothing to worry about.
Lastly. If the thought of the cameras bother you that much, you should seek employment elsewhere. Personally, I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to work for Millis, cameras or no, it is still one of the better companies to work for. There are things at every job that someone will dislike, you just have to decide for yourself whether you can tolerate it or not.Hegemeister Thanks this. -

Its been about 6 months ago when the first 100 cameras were installed if not longer but more and more trucks are getting them. Even the one you trained in. I know this because we both had the same trainer and I still keep in touch with him. I have no way of knowing but I'd say from listening to folks there are a lot more then 100 trucks with cameras.
Your second thought about the trucks belonging to Millis, your right but that doesn't mean drivers cant ##### about something. Its a way to blow off some steam and get other peoples reaction.
As far as going to the source for answers to everyone's questions, remember that open QuallComm day to ask Dan Millis any questions? That was a joke. Nothing was answered concerning the cameras but now he can say he gave everyone a chance to ask their questions.
You might not think about the cameras while your driving but keep in mind that just because the cameras can be covered at the end of the day it still has the audio running. You cant stop that. I for one don't want any one listening in on any phone calls I'm having with my wife. And don't think for a second that the camera cant be activated at any time. Hopefully you don't moan while your pulling one off in the back of the truck.
Lastly, If I'm not mistaken that's just what a lot of drivers are doing, finding employment elsewhere. -
From what I heard everyone will start getting them on the next b-service. But then again that is what I heard from other drivers. Don't know how true

Don't worry, in a short amount of time just about every truck rolling down the road will have a camera in it. Cameras are coming to Schneider, Swift, Roehl, any company you can think of except JoeBob's 2 truck fleet in Swamp Butt, Texas. Get used to it.
