I talked to a recruiter today at JBS. I was only offered the Midwest division out of Michigan. The offer was .46 cpm and a 5k retention bonus for a limited time. A $20.00 stop after the first one. avg miles were 2300 to 2600 but he said most drivers were doing 2600 - 2800.
If I were to take this job what would I be doing and is this offer true?

The cpm is true. Now the miles. I don't know how true that is. I would count on 2200 miles a week or maybe even 2,000. They do a lot of Chicago deliveries also. So if you don't mind delivering in Chicago. You should be alright. Most of the regional guys here have complained about low miles. So if that was true about the 2600 to 2800. Then more people would be jumping on that account. I'm OTR. Been here over 3 years and they are doing a lot of recruiting so maybe to get their numbers up. They may add a couple of hundred to the average miles. I normally average OTR about 2500 at .40cpm Had a few slow weeks recently so not even breaking the 2,000 mark. This pay day I had over 3,000 miles for the week, the week before that coming off home time I had 1500. I'll have about 1800 for this week. Could have more but the next load doesn't deliver till about pay cut off date which is Wednesday at midnight. This load I'll be picking up Hyrum, UT 9/8 paid mileage is 2332, and DH is 35. Going to Schenectady, NY and Bronx. Delivers 9/12 Hope I have the hours to do it. But again. You could possibly get those miles, but I don't want anybody to have their hopes up when they don't get what the recruiter promised. You have 32 years of experience so you know how they are not afraid to add to the numbers. But those other numbers are correct. Drop pay and I think the 5k bonus is given out over a years period of time. You get so much after so many months. Then the rest after so many months.

Good luck dinomite lol. I just had a load that delivered in north jersey followed by a preplan of 326 miles run at night from sauderton pa to windsor conn and springfield mass. I hate getting stuck up there. My dm got me a load going west but still stuck in that Wisconsin, Illinois north east loop. That being said Im still getting average or above miles.
Dinomite Thanks this. -

Poobah said: ↑While I am not currently, or have I ever been a driver for JBS, I have gone through a couple of orientations with other companies. When one considers that the D.O.T. sets the standards that all trucking companies are expected to meet, one can safely assume that there are similarities in the way the ergonomics test is administered from one trucking company to another. I found that to be the case with the companies I have worked for so far.
Roehl has a four page PDF file (http://goroehl.com/downloads/rdtc/Roehl Pre-Work Screening.pdf) online that, while I doubt is 'exactly' like what you'll experience at JBS, can probably serve as a good guide to prepare you for what you'll encounter at Greely or Hyrum. Page 1 pertains to a van driver (either dry or refrigerated), pages 3 and 4 are more directed towards flatbed ops. Particularly helpful are the "Ability To:" notes accompanying each pictured exercise; they help define just what practical application the test is looking to qualify in each driver candidate.
Also useful is the info on page 4, this deals with the only things that I have seen drivers get physically DQ'd for. You may be required to wear a heart rate monitor during the test. If your HR goes above a certain level, you may not be hired. All three times that I've done this test there were people, good experienced folks, sent home for having high blood pressure or an excessively high heart rate while under exercise induced stress. Both of those factors can be lowered by cutting back on caffeine for a few days before taking the test, and especially the morning of the test. It may sound 'goofy', but you can actually lower your blood pressure by doing the ZEN thing; close your eyes and focus on a mental picture of a peaceful and tranquil place while breathing deeply through your nose and exhaling slowly through your mouth. My first two DOT exams I was only able to get a one yr ticket because of BP, but the last time I tried the breathing while the PA was taking the BP reading and got 122/77!! Good enough for a two yr med card. DOT only requirs 140/90 or less for a standard 2 yr ticket.
If you can tie your shoes in the morning and do the activities in Roehl's ergonomics test and understand what they're looking for in those tests, you probably shouldn't spend too much time worrying about any trucking company's ergonomics test. From my experience, blood pressure and excessive heart rate have posed a bigger problem for folks than the actual physical part of the test.
Best wishes to you in your future endeavors.Click to expand... -
Well guess I'll have to wait and see whats going to happen. 1st stop never had an apt time. I knew load was going to be tight but not this tight. Finally sent apt today, and I'll need a 34hr restart and be about an hour or an hr and a half late to 1st stop if they let me keep it. Then should make my 12pm Bronx load on time. If they wouldn't have changed these stupid hours of service. I would be able to make it on time, but these new hos bite me in the tail once again. Here's my recap of hour for last 6 days still have 8 hrs left on the 70, but that wouldn't help any so will try to do restart and hit the road @ 6cst Wednesday and try to Schenectady apt if for 9/12 6am. Just 2 pallets.

No grass growing under these tires. Hope this keeps up the next few weeks. Hope I get to keep load and they change apt time or something. Guess we will see tmrw. Have a good day folks. -
Im not to happy with jbs at the moment. This pass weekend they had a wrong appointment time so I sat 18 hours longer then I planned which got me a 34 but they make me fight for layover when its their fault. No big deal so I go to greenbay to pickup my load which was do out saturday night and it wasnt ready till this morning. Still no big deal except they are changing the times for my pickup so detention is out of the question and make me fight for layover again. Only 1200 miles last week but ill be done with this 2100 mile load on thursday night. Dates mainly screwed me there.
Anyways the main thing that has me pissed is jbs is saying , going by seniority that if your not on the list and haven't received a phone call you dont get thanksgiving or Christmas off. Now last year I got a call saying I could choose either one because of my seniority which was only 15 months. Now with24 I dont make the list. So the list got shorter or something is screwy but I did confirm this with my dm. This hasnt been put out to all drivers because of obvious reasons but im either quitting before Christmas or having a doctors appointment on the 23rd lol. One way or another im not missing Christmas with the family because of jbs. If a load got screwed up or something like that happened I would deal with it , but jbs just saying no Christmas or thanksgiving isnt gonna work. I hope im wrong about this but I will be putting that new driver relations guy to work on this subject. -
Wow you mean they won't let you take either one. That's crazy. I got the phone call about a month or so. I'm not sure how they will pull that off. Especially if they are already begging people to recruit drivers. Not cool at all. You been here a while I hope they don't lose good drivers over this.
