Howdy Mark,
I told my mom I wanted to get a RM 720 and she found one on E-bay, but dident see that it had a problem "System file missing" until after she won the bid. She got it and it just came in today. When I first turned it on got a low battery, then the System file missing. I believe the people who had this tried to restore the device as it did say on ebay they called but had no luck getting it to work.. Im a little more computer savvy so hopefully I can get it to work. Hopefully the map files are still on there. Do you have any tips on how I can go about this. I downloaded the Dock software, and hooked it up to the Wall power at the moment. The red light is on(guessing charging) and I got System file missing. Should I go ahead and hook it up to my computer and try the software or let it fully charge? How should I go about getting this device to work? Any tips of advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike from Chicago-land. -
Update when I hook it up to my computer, I get Connected on the device but one drive comes up with 3.44 total size and 3.44 free space. there are 4 files on it two made today and two from 3/2012. When I tried to setup the Dock software I get a box that keeps popping up saying to connect the device. I hit yes and noting I disconnected and reconnect the RM720 and hit yes, still nothing, stuck in a loop. So now... how are things looking for me? Whats my next step?

Update, I called tech support and talked to Dave @ RM. He was very friendly and helpfull. I told him my situation and he was able to format the drive and install the dock software. We are updating the device with all the files needed. Looks like we will be able to restore this device. Thanks!

Freeways allow
Route fastest
As I mentioned I tried changing these settings on this route and the routing just got more ridiculous esp. on the one from Stanfield OR to Pasco WA where it tried routing me down every county road possible just to get me to go back to the original route as the unit did not know that there was an alternate route available where hwy 730 met hwy 12 in WA. Tried also 96/48 which made matters worse.
On the first leg to get out of Redlands CA if you leave the unit alone and just follow our normal route North and then re-calc when you get past the Palmdale exit just past the scales on I-15 it will pick up the proper route and drop 200mi off of the entire trip. As I mentioned the previous map set would set this route properly the very first time so I believe the problem is with the new map set and routing algorythems -
Thanks,
Mark -
If CS is unable to finish, load TeamViewer and I can pass the files needed to you. Make sure you are on High Speed Internet.

I have been using the TND units since the 700 came out and have not seen any significant changes in maps and routing only in more bells and whistles to store information on the unit.
At this point in time I would not recommend this unit to any new drivers as I am sure it would frustrate them and possibly get them into situations that they should not be in.
Accuracy is the most important feature we are looking for and Rand is failing in this regard. -
I just upgraded my 710 to a 720. Even though I don't have hotspot capability on my Iphone 4 with Verizon I tried to test it while on my home wifi. Logs into my wifi no problem, but when I click on traffic it says "Traffic Off". This is the only choice. "Traffic everywhere is available as a premium wi-fi connected service on the rand mcnally dock." The dock says "Traffic Subscribed = yes, expires 9/20/2014 LM= yes I then tried to use my Realtime Maps receiver and it just doesn't register at all on the 720. Any help would be appreciated. I need my traffic while driving here in Atlanta, Ga.
Thanks, Craig
Update: Worked with tech support and he edited a file on my GPS to get teh Traffic Everywhere to work and is replacing the Real Time Receiver with a newer designed one that he said was redesigned to work with the 720. Thanks Rand for such great the support!Last edited: Sep 20, 2013
