Oh yeah. The local runs in the Valley, in the summer, can get a little.................. shall we say.................. warm. :)

The runs up to Flagstaff is heading up to the Mogollon Rim. Flag is sitting at 7200ft, so the temp difference is huge.

Grabberblue12........................ is that a Mustang you have?? You had better not tell me it is a 2012 Boss 302, or the wife will find where you live (the 2012 or 13, in Grabber Blue is what she really wants). LOL

We crossed our 1 million mark over the last weekend. It has been the first time since I have been at my DC. They have only crossed 3 million once since opening. I hope we can reach it and keep going! We need good attitudes and enthusiasm!

When I was interviewing at Menomonie, there was a plaque on the wall for 34 million safe miles at that DC. I think it said it was a Walmart record. How would you have liked to have been the guy that had the oops that ended that streak.

Wow !!! That's a lot of miles. I would imagine that everyone knew who it was that ended the streak. That would suck.

Hey Matt, how many drivers do you have at Sealy?? I think we were right around 170, but there are a lot of senior drivers here. I always figured the odds just were against us, because of having so many drivers in such a busy metropolitan area as the Phoenix Metropolitan area. However, they stopped announcing milestones like they used to do. Sometimes if you are thinking so hard about not having a problem, that is exactly what you do. I do know that most of our issues were small not paying attention types of things. So, they stop talking about it, and look what happens.

Well, I just finished switching trucks. The truck I was supposed to be in for the week wasn't back until this evening, so I had to take a fill-in for the day. Oh well, I will be in this one for the rest of the week. Dog day tomorrow !!! All of the outside carriers were scarfing down subs today. Hey, it is Driver Appreciation week, so why not?? Their companies probably didn't do anything for them.

    Night all !!!

We are currently right around 136 or so. Had ma chili dog or two today after my FLW. I'm in the same ordeal as you Rich. My program truck is still in the shop and the one they did give me for a week was also in the shop. So back Sealy tonight for a swap out.

That was Douglas Georgia, used to work with one of the drivers with a big gold ring for that one. (the Douglas, Georgia, WalMart Fleet Dispatch Center
has achieved an outstanding safety record. Their 200
drivers went from October 11, 1995, to June 11, 1997,
without being involved in a preventable accident. During
those twenty months, the drivers traveled 32,752,058 safe
miles, breaking the WalMart fleet record)

    Hi All,
I assume that everyone has had their mandatory meetings:) Let us review; No talking more than ten minutes at a time, no more than 1 hour in an 11 hour driving period. Must use bluetooth(why no one wouldn't is beyond me), No texting while driving(natch), No talking in heavy or city rush hour traffic, inclement weather, school zones, backing, on the yard or tight quarters. Any accident(chargeable or not) can trigger a demand for log records of your phone from your carrier. (and probably will) Records will cover the accident or incident but can be demanded up to 30 days back if requested. These records will be compared to gps records from your truck along with OBC records of Quallcomm and your truck engine. Any incidents or violations uncovered in the comparison, whether it is involving the incident/accident or any other time while driving will lead to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from employment with WalMart. Alright, lets unleash the dogs here...does this jive with your meetings? Feel free to print this out and check it with you safety person. Happy...and quiet motoring:biggrin_25514:

I was told by an OP's person right after I was hired that the private fleet was going to make a big push to hire younger drivers. The thinking behind this was that they would get more years of service out of the younger drivers. Traditionally a large portion of new drivers coming to the private fleet were coming from jobs that they had either retired from or were really close. Drivers with this level of experience were easy to attract with Walmarts reputation as a really good place to finish your career. Of course there have always been minimum requirements but most new hires came in with far more than the minimum. In my class all six of us came in with 20+ years and 2+ million miles and all were on our previous jobs for 15+ years.

Everything Chewey mentioned should be a no brainer for a professional driver who has 20+ years and 2 million miles along with a stellar safety record. Drivers like us should not have to be told when or where not to talk, text or anything else for that matter. These new measures are being put into place partly because of the decision to hire younger less experienced drivers who bring with them these habits. I call them habits but it really just the "new" way of doing things. Of course the old guys that dont exercise good judgement are partly to blame but I find it suspicious that all this has come down at the same time. For most of us we didnt have cell phones, texting,GPS,ipads or any of the other modern distractions. We did have the CB and the AM/FM which could be onsidered distractions but no one really ever made a big deal about it.

I think Walmart has made a huge problem for themselves but only time will tell. The success of the company and the continuing growth make these kind of changes necessary but its going to hurt their ability to attract the drivers they have in the past. Drivers that might have considered leaving their current jobs to finish their careers with the private fleet are giving it a second thought,I have seen this first hand. Its pretty obvious with all the new radio spots that things have changed and the push is on to find the next generation of Wallys.

Since I came over to Landstar I have come to really appreciate the freedom I have and the complete lack of supervision I deal with every day. I work when I want,go where I want, make as much or as little as I want and I never hear a word from JAX. I do run an EOBR but I have for the last 19 years,Im smarter than the black box so it doesnt bother me in the least.
