And who knows where the new regs will lead in the future that the president called for not long ago; it is hard enough for the ones that are already called for . More and more states will follow suit with the standards and it will force companies and owners to spend more money revamping or getting new vehicles. I see the cost of trucking going up and someone is going to have to pay the price for it. Truckers are already on the short end of the stick on the pay scale as it is. Trucks are neutered and governed to try and get the presumed savings on fuel, but to what cost; more trucks on the road to take care of the volume, slower traffic impeding cars who can travel faster. And the merry circle goes on.
A Possible Unintended Consequence Of CARB '14 Regs....

boycott that commie state !!
they're all a bunch of fruits & nuts anyway.
haven't been out there in yrs and don't plan on it, except in to visit my eccentric brother. -
What about that electronic device my carrier has? It clips on your mirror and when scanned you're allowed to enter with an older truck. This will be no good anymore???
-
Companies are feeing Cali daily. The increase in shipping will force them out quicker! Then they can put the big sign out at the state line , Closed For business !
-
Me being a Ca only carrier, I wonder how the rates will be for me? Everyone says I'll be doing a lot better with my 1996 truck for the next 2 years, but that's only if the Commie EPA nazis actually enforce the rules here. Do I want them to? Hell no! While I stand to profit from this garbage, I still don't like it.

They simply ban you from certain places(very few at this time but they are creating more in the next years)
AND they charge roadtax according to your emissions.
Have a old truck(pre 2004) and you are the road to ruin. 0,6263$/mile
A EPA10 truck pays 0.3371$/mile in Germany.
Pretty shure you don't want that system.Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -
However, I did get a car from Germany because of this issue, the owner who lives within a LEZ didn't want to spend the money on the retrofitting of the car which costs more than the car was worth, why I got it cheap. -
If you have a non-compliant rig....You can't gain access in the ports now.... -
This thread got DERAILED ===== Big time.
The OP hypothesized about the impact on freight rates to other states if half the trucks on the road in California are no longer able to travel there. I have been talking about this in Phoenix for years. Its just beginning to happen now. Shippers and receivers in California are looking for companies with nothing but compliant trucks. That is leaving many older trucks trying to get loaded out of Phoenix, ALL of them have no choice but to go go north or east. If you are sitting in Phoenix in a newer truck you have a choice, go west for good money or go east for dirt cheap. Sometimes they need to go east for less money to get to a better load or they can go west for good money now... Point is, they have a choice, the guys with old trucks have no choice, they take scraps for little or no pay.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
To follow this to its logical conclusion if the same number of compliant trucks are drawn to california than those leaving the state would be filling anequal void left by them so in theory if you just stay away from ca and maybe the border states once it all shakes out won,t it just be more of the same
Lone Ranger 13 Thanks this.
