high gross is a lot different than high dollar, that's the trap many fall into. it looks good going out, sit for a few days and load cheap coming out. no thanks I will hang out running a Midwestern triangle

The simple answer, Intermodal will pickup even more out of Cali. for crossdock purposes or being bypassed altogether. Once the canal is finished being widen, and the post canal ships start hitting Houston, La Porte, Savannah, etc., Cali (Oakland, L.A., Long Beach), Portland, Seattle and Vancouver will all have a problem. We already see a lot of cans bypass Cali. and ship into Mexico for transshipment North. Three years ago we were getting Samsung TV's from Korea via. Mx. to Denver. Came in on containers, crossdocked to PIGS then shipped N. In some cases the cans themselves came N. to Phx. then cross docked to PIGS for Denver and points East. That's how BB was getting their TV's in.

Still plenty of produce going to Denver....

Cali will always remain a huge producer of Ag products...

There was something about this in the Knight part off this forum.
Basicly Knight is expecting more cans rather then less going into Cali.

I hope you're right WCP. I'm buying a "legal" truck just because I plan to run Cali. It's a pile more cash than an older truck so I hate to say it but I hope the CARB cops are at every bug check every day and do drive the rates up. Unfortunately, the laws of economics will catch up and there will be more and more used "legal" trucks available and in a couple years rates will come back down. Just my opinion.

Most people I have talked about that say we'll have between 3-5 years for the non-compliant drivers/carriers to catch up....In the Freight sector...
Vocational sectors like the Dump Trucks may take up to 7 years or more to recover....
Dump Truck rates in most of Cali are still low.....
Last time I checked with a broker friend of mine...
    Ten-Wheeler rates are at $65/h...
    Super 10's are at $70/h.....
Lowsides are at $75/h....All with no Minimums....
So those Dump Truck O/O's can't justify spending more than $20K on a rig......

In fact...Back in '05 I attended a CARB workshop and CARB found through an informal survey that the majority the Dump Truck O/O's had rigs that were 10 years old or older....

So let's say they need to upgrade to an '08 Rig (Even though '07 was the first year that the EPA/CARB engines were in production...Many of the '07's still had '06 engines in them)...Those rigs will be 6 years old and have between 500k-700K on them mileage wise...Pete's and KW's like the 389's, 386's....T800's and W900's will still sell for at least between $50-80k depending on the condition of the vehicles....

Not only that...Supply and Demand come into play....So quite possibly those estimates may even be conservative on the range....

    Either way....
I plan on taking full advantage of the situation....

What I paid for my rig back in '10 is the same as what many people pay for a house....

I don't feel any guilt if others who for one...Didn't take advantage of the compliance programs if they were a Designated Business (Various low-interest loans and grants were available to all of them between '04 and the end of '13) or....Anyone else who didn't change their business model...

It's not like Cali didn't give us more than ten years notice on this!!!!

Funny, I went to Peterbuilt here where I live to sign up for the Voucher. I have a 07, with a 06 engine. Peterbuilt told me it won't be until next year sometime before the vouchers for 04-06 engine year will be available. They also have a print out from CARB that shows 04-06 engine year has until Jan 1 2015 before compliance. Just normal CARB crap. They won't post extensions on there website. Just like 96-2000 engine year was extended to the end of this year, never posted it on there website. I called CARB and told them about this, all he could tell me is he can't comment on this, and just keep in contact with the dealer for voucher updates
