Starting Soon

Got approved to start at Interstate as soon as Oct 21 for orientation in Fontana. I'm currently out on the road with my company, and have home time (California) set for Oct 10 (today is Oct 12) and under a load from Houston TX to Topeka KS lol. I get the strong feeling my company just doesn't care about me any more because I have more or less quit in their eyes. Well, I guess I will stay running for them til Wed Oct 16 (pay period cutoff) at least and see if they can get me a load to Los Angeles otherwise I'm wondering if Interstate would pay for my fuel to get me to California. I'm wondering if I could run under my current company's plates/insurance/permits/authority etc to get to IDC (if IDC pays for the fuel) before I officially drop the quit bomb on my company? The original plan was for me to go home and IDC would overnight me plates permits decals fuel card etc and I would bobtail down to Fontana.

 

I think everything will work out OK. Still have to send in a bunch of paperwork to IDC including my current lease agreement. I hope they don't need a copy of every page lol because that is a pretty large folder.

Quick question for the owner ops, how soon after you turn your trips in do you get paid?

 

I never made it to IDC. In Oct, when I was approved for orientation, the recruiter said I could be there for orientation within the next week. The girls in the office had too much paperwork to do. In the end I spent about a week and half at home waiting for them to get things together for me. So I told them to put my app on hold, I had to go back to work.

In January, again I got hold of the recruiter who was happy to work with me again. We set it all up and again it was going to be into the 3rd week off work before they got me into orientation. I remember faxing 18 pages of stuff to the girls in the office about 10AM. I called the next morning 10AM to see if they got it, she said they hadn't even looked at the fax machine in a couple days. She gets back on and says there's a backup of hundreds of pages of stuff they have to go through. Then they wanted me to do a physical and get my truck inspected. Every day I called they still didn't know where to send me for phys even though I told her the name of the place in my town. Finally they called me on Thursday morning to go do it, I said I'm going back to work, it has been two weeks already, not going to orientation next week (third week off work) can't afford that much time off.

Ironically my loads brought me back into home within a few days and I got ahold of the recruiter one more time thinking we could pick up where we left off maybe save some time, but he said they didn't want me.

 

I didn't go with IDC but another company in March 2014. How I did it, was being on hometime, my truck and company trailer were 14 miles away at the truckstop. On Sunday afternoon I had to leave home in Stockton CA to travel to Los Angeles area for orientation at this new company. On the way down I dropped the company trailer at the old company's terminal and bobtailed down to new company orientation Monday morning. Still leased to the old company, using old company's plates, permits, insurance etc. Attend orientation and postdate my new contract with new company for following Monday. Run another load for old company then bobtail home for the weekend. Monday morning I'm at the new company's terminal close to home and set it all up with decals, plates, permits, insurance, new trailer etc. Send message to old company, '"Request Terminate Contract ASAP'"

It was brilliant and it was epic and exciting.
