Hi, I'd like to learn more about intermodal and all the rules regulations and everything that come with it? Does any one have a good source where I might be about to get that information? Thanks

Where are you? The ports are chaotic ,rails are a little better but the whole intermodal gig is stressful. Just depends JUST how much you wanna stay at home in your own bed. Always over weight, tires, lights always garbage, and D.O.T magnets! I did it so I could see my own home and family for awhile but it's a whole different headache.
Feel free to p. m. me -
Find an intermodal company and lease on. You need a twic card. But that's it. I do it now and have had about enough in the 18 months I've been doing it. If you could have a personal chassis would make things better. But charli girl is right. You'll have days when it takes four hours to get in and out because you wait forever to get unloaded and you can't find a trailer worth a dime. But if you want to be home everyday its not a terrible gig. Some tips, never drive over 60 and check your air pressure because those tires blow like crazy.
Charli Girl Thanks this. -
Thanks I've been hearing that your suppose to have some type of barcode on your truck to enter is that true?

Not in Baltimore but I don't know how the other ports are

No bar code..you need a twic card for the ports. But you don't even need that to do the rail yards, just PATIENCE!

Awesome I think I know what I wanna do then

You'll thank me later... -
I work for an intermodal company.
Prepare to deal with overweight containers, busted up chassis, blown tires.. regular pull in at the scales and D.O.T inspections outside of the railyards. Not to mention... the hours of wait at a railyard sometimes. Good luck.
