He is working for a contract carrier. I don't think it is possible to work here and make that little, unless they have a 3/4 shift that I don't know about. LOL (3 on, 4 off)

Oh well, off to CA with my claims.

I missed this post. He either works for a contractor or he doesn't work much or is on a program like 3 on 4 off etc. Like extreme said, that's no Walmart wages, not from where I sit.

    Extreme4x4 Thanks this.

There must be an opening in order to apply. It won't let you apply unless that DC is hiring. Either keep checking every week or so if you're looking to get into a certain DC, or put in for wherever there IS an opening to get your foot in the door and transfer after a year. There also has to be an opening where you're transferring TO, but you will get first crack at it (based on seniority if anyone else put in for same location).

As others have stated, no need to rush. Take your time. You can spend an hour doing the pre-trip if needed. What counts is that you thoroughly check the tractor and trailer. If you think you forgot to mention an item, go back to it. You do not have to mention each item in the exact order they are located on the tractor/trailer.

When doing the backing, one thing that most applicants fail to realize......you can slide the tandems if needed! Backing a 53" trailer in between other trailers is much easier to control with the tandems slide all the way back. Get out and look as much as needed. Not hitting something is critical, so pull up several times if needed. Doing it safely is what counts. :)

You will like working here. It will change you for the better. The feeling of calm and happiness will be apparent within the first few weeks. My wife has seen a huge change since I have been working here. When I go home each week, I look forward to returning. At my last job, that was not the case. Use this opportunity to have a great job and reconcile things with your wife. It will pave the way for a very happy future! :)

Which DC in Texas are your testing at?

Most of us here at the Walmart Private Fleet make that much in 2-2.5 days per week. As others have said, he is not a Walmart Private Fleet driver or works very little, which probably is not the case since you mentioned him being gone a lot.

How does that work? The closest place to me hiring is like 250 miles.

What is it like for running OTR ?

Would I take the truck home?

You park the tractor at the DC you are currently based at. You go home or elsewhere, then return back on your scheduled day out. Often drivers who live a long way from the DC they are working out of will stay at a hotel, get a camper to sleep in, or just go home. You must work at the DC you were hired at for a minimum of one year before you are eligible to apply for a transfer to a different DC.

Running OTR is not like a long haul carrier except that you sleep in the truck. You would generally stay within a few hundred miles of your DC, depending on which DC you are based out of. I personally park for the night at a DC or Walmart store. Never have to fight for a parking space like at truck stops. :)
