Flatbed always slows down a bit in winter, its the nature of the trailer. Budget wisely, and kick back and enjoy the slow times while all the van/reefer/tanker drivers are still running around like mad mice trying to "make that buck".
And to echo other drivers, tell Swift as little as absolutely necessary. They don't need to know every detail about everything going on in your life.
Trying to take hubby's hometime away because he did a 34 hour reset??

It's not Swift's business (or any carrier for that matter) what you do on your off duty time. If you happen to be at a place where you can stay with family or a friend, so much the better. The OPs husband happened to get ahold of a major chucklehead... all the more reason why a driver should never confide your off duty plans to anyone outside of a trusted dispatcher (they do exist) or another driver.
windsmith Thanks this. -
newtrucker I dont know a ton about flatbeds but I have heard melton is a decent company and they keep sending me stuff in the mail but im not too interested for my own needs but they have offered me I believe it was 36cpm. For company info about things I have learnt you can seek out chinatown, this person knows a lot of people and has been around for awhile so if you want to gather some info seek this one out if they dont manage to post here first.

Nope not with Swift. With another company, was just interested to seeif he would go home or not.

AsBlind Driver says, never tell them anything they dont need to know. The only thing they need to know is he had to take a 34. Tell them nothing else.

swift never charged me hometime during any of my 34 hr resets. but will loose truck if more than 3 days are taken( here in fontana terminal). also for a heads up. was told by my dl that we can't bank any of out time saved. once your hometime is over, you start at zero. i been out 120 days so far and taking 4 days off thanxgiving weekend. i will loose the other days not taken

Yeah I have been looking into Melton for him and that was one thing we both really like about that company...you can save hometime days you don't use and use it later.

At 25% of gross, I've been averaging better than $0.50cpm on 2000 miles / week or more since I got my CDL less than 18 months ago. I choose whether to book my own loads or take what dispatch gives me. Never a complaint from the owner when I book a load through or to the house. No, I don't get company provided insurance. But that's a small price to pay, IMO.Victor_V Thanks this. -

I think a large part of this and most problems at Swift is that DL's, Planners, CSR's or whatever they're called don't realize they are in the service industry, and their job is to SERVICE drivers. They are there to help drivers drive and most don't even know how drivers work or what it entails. Sometimes I think I'd be a pretty good DL because I know how Driver's feel and work. Except for at work do they talk to drivers and realize they are people with families? Most of those college kids they get are clueless and are cashing a check waiting for a better job to come along.
As for the inital 34 problem new rules state that when you do a 34 you have to have 2 over nights during that 34 (or so I understand it) and therefore your 34 may be 36 or 38 depending on when you stop and when your 70 is up etc. I think they screwed your Man over because they can. They easily make themselves the enemy instead of working with you. I find then only way to resolve any situation is to create CONFLICT because if you don't they will use you to wipe thier #####.
Does anyone at Swift explain the rules to the keyboard pounding monkeys? If a wife can understand it why can't they?newtruckerwife84, SteveH85396 and A21CAV Thank this.
