If you are residing in Las Vegas, I would suggest American Institute of Technology for your school(AIT). I started with Gordon Trucking, INC(GTI). GTI is a great starter company, and far better than any of the others I researched. They have better starting pay, and the their training program is "real", none of this running as a team crap that some companies do. If you have any questions feel free to send me a PM.

I spent the first thirty years of my life working in the operating room. I was trained in the army in 1976 many many moons ago.

Passing instruments on total joint procedures mostly but passing instruments on all types of surgery and cleaning up after them yeah somebody has to clean up when it is done that would be me. I have seen the working insides of the entire human body and had become disillusioned with the changes that had occurred in the medical field. It use to be the patient came first now the check comes first.

So I hung up my gown and gloves for a new career.Different industry but amazing some of the same problems.I think it may just be a generational thing.

Was a mechanic for a few years, then joined the navy. Painted boats for awhile then started driving. Odd jobs here and there but nothing spectacular.

Luman: i assume you were responding to my post on this thread. i cannot send PM's yet. But I'd be willing to hear what you have to say about GTI. curious to know if they are forced dispatch or not....also, if they pay detention and/or layover pay. %of drop and hook....inverter policies ....how many miles does a solo driver get, and anything else you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

also, i am not living in the vegas area, just plan on being there for the WSOP this year...a six week period starting in late MAY. I plan on attending a Sage school in Idaho.

Won't be driving 'till mid summer, but was a bookbinder for 21 years after getting out of the service. Great job with good pay, but the arms couldn't handle it any more so decided to go back to school and get me a sit down job as a mechanical drafter/designer. Man what a mistake that was! I can't stand sitting in front of a computer all day long and am counting the days until I get on the road and out of this cubicle.:biggrin_2554:

I spent the first couple of years out of high school Sandblasting in the shipyard; The pay was good but it SUCKED.
Joined the Marine Corps in early 86 and stayed for 20 years as a grunt (8541).
Have spent the last couple of years working as a security contractor in Iraq. The work is good and the pay is great but I have a 1 Yr old and a 19yr old that wanted me home.
Just getting started in trucking. Brother owns a small fleet in Alabama and wants me to work with him. Got my CDL in Jan and he is teaching me the ropes.
It has been good so for.

2 yr. technical degree in 1974. Worked as a printing press operator, copier repairman and manager for a motel chain. Drove truck (something I always wanted to do) from 1976 to 1986 (9 of those years with UPS. Picked up driving again 1997 to present. Pulling a chemical tank & enjoy that more than any other type of trucking. At least I get paid for almost all of what I do & get treated very decently by all my customers.
