I thought I heard Schneider trucks don't have APU's, I think if I was going OTR a APU would be great to have. Not sure about this though. Not sure what type trucks and transmissions either, anyone know here ?

I think they currently run freightliners, The question about APUs is on my list once I get closer to my hire date.
-
No APUs, even in the OTR trucks. Only bunk heaters. I believe inverters are not allowed either. I agree without an APU, its a lot more of a challenge to eat better food. You'll be a lot more reliant on truck stops and local food joints. Best advice is to keep a lot of dry snacks in the truck in case you get stuck in bad weather and aren't near any food for awhile. At least you have granola bars or peanut butter and jelly to keep you from starving.

Mostly 10 speed Freightliners to the best of my knowledge.

I worked for Schneider in the past. They do run 10-speed Freightliners but they don't have apu's. They do have wabasto heaters that work very well. I did pretty well there for the year I was employed by them. They run mainly non-hazmat loads, but you will get a hazardous load from time to time. I dreaded getting any Nalco pick-ups/deliveries. They have operating centers in certain parts of the country where you can get a free shower and wi-fi. Overall, it is a decent company to work for. I would recommend going to work for them. Just one word of caution; if you are out of shape or don't have a lot of upper body strength, you will probably fail the pre-work physical they give you on day one of training. Just be aware, if you fail this, they will immediately send you home. They don't care how far away you came to train.

Thanks Southpaw, good info ! Why did you dread Nalco pick-ups/deliveries. I am not familiar at all with Nalco. Is it a bad location, hard to get into, hard to deal with customer ??? -

I dreaded Nalco p/u's and deliveries because there is a page long list of instructions you have to follow before you can unload plus, especially at the facility in Chicago, the load was rarely ready when you got there at your scheduled appt. time. As far as the air conditioning in the trucks, it is perfectly fine but you do have to idle your truck to run those. You can run the wabasto without the engine idling but not the a/c. And believe me, during the summer months in Houston or West Memphis you HAVE to run the a/c to sleep or the truck is like an oven.
