I talked to Schneider about tanker before. They haul a lot of latex the recruiter told me.

My wife doesnt want to do tanker but if I were you I would. Tanker jobs pay better.

    dennisroc Thanks this.

I thought someone said on this thread that the physical was pretty hard and they sent one guy home who didn't pass and they don't care where you have to go. This sucks for some of us, I am 59 and not as limber as I once was. I would hate to go there and get sent home. I think I would be fine but not sure I want to chance it. Seems like they should just you come in and test before you do any thing else.If there is some place close.

dennisroc, they will have you take your D.O.T medical examination close to your home before you go to orientation. When you get there, however, within the first hour you are going to be given a pre-work screen "physical" where you have to do a few different tasks to show you can "handle" the requirements of the job. Nevermind the lift test, if your heart rate goes above a certain level - and they have a formula based on your age - you are gone!! If you fail the lift test, gone!! If you stumble while walking on the catwalk (that simulates walking on top of the tanker), gone!! It is part of the reason they are so desperate for drivers.
To show you how ridiculous the test is, I went to orientation back in May. That day I passed everything leading up to the lift test. My heart rate was perfectly fine. As soon as I "failed" the lift test, I was told to go home. They let you come back 1 more time withing the next two weeks to try it again. The second time, I failed before I even got to the lift test portion because my heart rate was too high, even though the week before I was well below the "failure" range. It didn't even make sense. It was frustrating because I feel these tests are unnecessary since I worked for them and proved I could do the job 3 years ago but they said it is their new policy, so c'est la vie. Just think long and hard before wasting your time and energy going all the way to one of their tanker training sites.

    dennisroc Thanks this.

Is this for all lines of Schneider or just tanker?

The pre-work screen physical isn't as strenuous if you are going to work for Schneider on the dry van side, gntorres61.

Thanks Southpaw, I had no idea tanker was that physical. I never developed my upper body in my 52 years of life. Was just released from Howard 3 weeks ago. Flatbed WASN't horrible, but I didn't catch on as quick as they would have liked. Enjoyed the experience, though. Thanks again.

Wow, maybe I should see about driving a taxi :) I think I might just pass on Schneider. I have been looking at US Xpress pretty hard.

Still going to be awhile before I move back to the states so I will just keep looking to see what is the best way to go.

I will be taking a big pay cut when I leave my job so I need to find a pretty good company that I can drive for like maybe 5 years or so then maybe retire.

Flatbed is more strenuous than tanker but some suit at Schneider decided they needed to implement some ridiculous screening process for their tanker positions. It is why they are struggling to find enough drivers to fill their tanker jobs.

    gntorres61 and dennisroc Thank this.

dennisroc, I hope you don't think I am trying to discourage you from trying the tanker division at Schneider. I am only stating these facts on this forum because I saw people at orientation that traveled from hundreds of miles away be sent home 1 hour after they showed up on the first day. This is something they won't tell you when you are talking to a recruiter.

    gntorres61 and dennisroc Thank this.
