Better get use to it, its the times we now live in. As far as tracking us, what about all the traffic cams and sensors being install along the roadways now? Can't avoid them.

I honestly think we're about 10 years away from where auto and truck licensing costs (and other taxing means) will be based on a number that your vehicle provides that says how many miles it drove and in what states and localities. The person at the tag licensing office will be able to pull up that data just like the lady at the DMV can pull up your driving infraction record when you go to renew your drivers license. At the very least, an "odometer statement" or affidavit will be used until all older cars are eliminated.

If a vehicle is licensed in Memphis, TN but drove 80% of it's miles in AR, then TN will owe AR, and it will be reciprocal and nationwide at some point ... perhaps even to the county level.

I don't like it, but the more fuel efficient we become, the harder federal, state, and local taxing authorities will press for this ability to tax based on miles (probably in addition to the current pump taxes we pay) That's what we get for being "mindful of our carbon footprint" and trying to be frugal and meeting new and ever-increasing federal CAFE standards

Hate to break this to you, but Oregon has already been looking into this or may even be doing it because of the hybrid and electric cars.

Went and looked it up, not yet but within 2 years.

I know this has been going on in isolated jurisdictions but I'm more concerned when this becomes a nationwide effort and the Oregon thing was just the tip of the iceberg and the "little nudge" that started the ball rolling. But I'll laugh when the electric car owners get a special tax bill :biggrin_2559: Danged if you do, danged if you don't.
