Here's a question I haven't asked.
Do most of our trucks have tire chains or cables?
I have cables on my truck, not a fan since I've never thrown cables before. I haven't even pulled them out yet to look at them, see how they work! I'd much rather have chains. -

I don't plan on it either, but since I've gotta carry them, I might as well learn how to throw em!
I wonder if Tulsa would let me swap cables for chains without a fight...I've only thrown chains once and that was "just because" on my trainers truck. I've done a bit of snow driving to and from Kalispell, MT without chains. That was actually a fun route, keeps you on your toes! -
I don't see why not. I tell everyone they are for looks. I did have one company that wanted me to chain and run all day on them to deliver. I did it but will never do it again.
I look at states I'm going through to see if chain law is in effect. If so I pull over and I do this just usually before getting to these areas. -
All trucks with super singles have cables. They won't give you chains now because cables are lighter. Yes, they are "for looks"...Melton does not and will not force you to drive in conditions requiring the use of chains. But several places we go to require them to be on your truck at all times between certain months in the winter time.
Also, your cables are for your super singles. Your chains are for your trailer. They're drag chains. -

We just got a QC that said safety has to approve chain ups. They want to avoid it if at all possible. Still, I need to figure out how to throw the cables. Not to worried about the chains since the lock on them has no key.
