    If you go through PSD, you will be treated as though you don't have your license yet, and will have to take a qualifying test. As a CDL holder, you will more likely go through TNT to start with, a trainee and employee under the guarantee.

    You'll have to discuss specifics with a recruiter.

    Ok, so at this point, my student is nearly done with all his driving hours, and just needs some good pad time to practice backing.

    I'm a little concerned about the backing part. I'm not sure my instructions are very clear, at least for parallel.

    JimmyBones - thanks for starting this thread! I have been wanting to become a trucker for quite sometime now. I have done many days worth of research on the topic, to be exact, and all of my information has lead me to Prime Inc. I read through your entire blog here, and cannot thank you enough for starting it! It has answered many of my questions that I could not find on Prime's website, and other forums/blogs. Kudos!

    I hope everything is going good with your job, and your transition to becoming a trainer! I will be applying to Prime Inc, in the apprenticeship program, within the next several months (before the start of April 2014). My only question that I have been unsuccessful to find - probably because it is irrelevant, but I am interested in knowing - is this: what do the recruiters talk to you about when you call them, other than let's say, my questions? (ie. do they look up your driving records and let you know if you can be accepted - upon request, or not - into Prime's apprenticeship program?) Basically, what are good questions to ask them? Thanks for your time, and anyone else's who decides to chime in with actual good information (which almost all on this thread, has been).

    Hello. I currently lease from a company that was recently merged into another. I knew there would be some issues, and I was OK with it - for awhile. It is now apparent that what I thought were issues are actually SOP.

    Today, while I was waiting for a load, I called a recruiter at Prime. She seemed very nice. I have to admit that I am somewhat shocked by the fixed costs of their lease. My current lease is about $300 to $500 less per week, but I get paid less per mile. I also have the option to purchase my truck at the end of the lease for $1, whereas with Prime I would have to find my own financing. I'm sort of comparing apples to oranges, so I won't get too involved. I'm just struggling with the differences right now and trying to figure out what's best for me.

    The reason I am posting right now is because I would like to know what routes their trainers run. I had planned on becoming a trainer with my current company, but that's not going to happen since I will be leaving - I think. Most of the trainers for my current company run LTL linehaul from terminal to terminal. It's nothing but Interstate driving and drop and hook. With Prime, what routes do the trainers get? I don't mind training, but it's a waste to get solo runs where I spend lots of time waiting to load and unload. I can teach someone to back and drive in the city when I'm not on a load; I don't need to wait at shippers to do that.

    Well, a recruiter's job is to give you basic info on the company and to help you enroll in the program. Any questions you have can be answered by her or here on the forums.

    The best thing for you to do is to discuss any personal circumstances with them that might affect you or your burgeoning career. I don't pretend to know what that might be for you personally.

    Oh, and is there anyway I could use one of the Prime drivers (past/current) as a reference of some sort? Like JimmyBones, or IronPony? If not, that's fine. I'm just wondering if I possibly could! Also, JimmyBones, I would like to request for you to be my trainer/instructor (sorry, I forget the difference - it would be the part after I get my CDL-A via Prime Inc)! :p

    Trainers run wherever their divisions run; that's for you to have set up in advance. Trainers train folks who are employees, and operate as a super solo then team. Instructors act as a solo truck.

    Top speed for lease is 65 on cruise.

    IronPony is a good person to ask about the lease side of the house- he has a whole thread about it somewhere. Perhaps he'll link it for you.
