Glad you guys are out of most of it, It looks like it was mostly west of where you were, it was still bad where you were but it could have been worse, Glad you are doing better, These dispatchers have no clue where or what has happened, they just see where you are and how long it will take to get to where you need to go. good Luck. Keep us posted.
flyboynme Thanks this. -
I didn't hit any weather until Hooker, OK. I was sailing along US-54 with a scheme to make all three of these deliveries on time when the freezing rain started. It was soon snowing and traffic slowed to a crawl. Any hope of making Tucumcari vanished so I called JCT with the good news. What a dreadful spot for them to be in. They have drivers trying to get home, drivers already sitting at home, and the rest of us trying to make deliveries. A swap doesn't look to be in the works.
Dalhart, TX was the best spot that I could see to try to park this thing. No room at the inn there at 2 pm, so I left there and headed for the first available parking. I had a little over two hours left on my clock, but I wasn't taking chances.
Right outside of town, there was a 15 minute delay. A bridge under construction was down to one lane. A little further down the road I passed a picnic turnout that already was full. Within another 5 miles the road ahead showed nothing but brake lights and flashers (not the good kind!). People were out of their cars and trucks and were ice skating from the top of the hill. A couple of vehicles had tested their traction to the limits and beyond. This stoppage took an hour and a half, which let me catch up with my swearing and some Candy Crush. I also sent a message to the Logs Department stating my situation (CYA message) in case I went over my hours.
Once we started moving, it was very slow going. I had 29 minutes left on the clock and 13 miles to a weigh station in New Mexico where I thought I might find parking. I didn't make it by 12 minutes!
At the New Mexico state line, the road changed from a couple of inches of snow and ice to clear and almost dry! WTG New Mexico! I found a motel next to the weigh station that let me park in their lot and sold me a couple of sandwiches.
I finally made it to Tucumcari and stopped at the Loves this morning. There were two state troopers stopping north-bound traffic. Apparently Texas finally closed down US-54. I was a proud Texan in my youth, but that state is so full of fail right now!luvtotruck, flyboynme, TAfool and 1 other person Thank this. -

A couple of pages ago someone was asking about the insurance. I've got the PDF file from the insurance broker.
Just to give a run down it looks like a high deductible just enough to cover your tail policy. The cost is around $150 a week for a family plan. As far as Obamacare compliant, who the heck knows because they keep changing the rules.Jarhed1964 Thanks this.
