Devil dog, you're used to sharing confined spaces with other Marines, not other disgusting unsanitary human beings which is what you will find in almost all company sponsored training. Do the right thing and go to a community college for your training. If money is an issue contact the VA or get a grant. Don't fall into the company sponsored training trap. BTW, I can't imagine trying to room with half of these guys that I see in the truck stop.

Check out Roehl transport, they run a school, have good training, and run van, reefer and flat. I am not sure if they hire in your area but I think they are about the best of the starter companies.

You live in nc you've got one of the best community college training programs available right at your doorstep. Do that if you can and then go with a decent company like Epes or cargo transporters that not only pay well but get you home regularly too. Both based in nc and hire from the cc system as well as the nc cc program having many more local contacts as well. Why start at the bottom of the barrel if you don't have to?

Thanks for all the advice. I have an appointment to see someone at Miller Motte CC Monday morning. Hopefully that goes well.

Yeah, definately better options than CRST. They would be a last resort.

Thanks. I've thought about that too, I was Military Police, but I'm going to stick with driving. I have my plans and goals and I am determined to meet them.

good luck to you, I know Marines normally specialize in something and I would choose that path over trucking to be honest. My brother in law just got out recently from the marines and now works as a civilian over in Afghanistan making some huge bucks, I think his training is in radar or satellite systems. He was also deployed to those places where you were, think he did 3 times in Afghanistan.

What makes you want to drive a truck? Its a lot different once people get out here, you either love it or hate it and most end up hating it.
