After having read every page of this EPIC thread of information and experience, all I can say is "Thank you Chris." As a current student at Sage Trucking School in Endicott, NY, you have provided me with the best insiders look at a great company, Watkins/Shepard. I just completed my online application for them.

I wish you and your mother the best. I pray you will see the open road once again (something tells me you'll be back!)

Yes...I've read it all from the first post. I must say "thanks Chris"!!!! This thread has been informative, entertaining, helpful, and adventurous. I appreciate your candor as well as your undying POSITIVE ATTITUDE! I'm not sure if I will ever drive for Watkins Shepard, but no matter what company I drive for I hope I have co-workers like you to inspire me. Thanks again and best of luck to you and your family.

    Well hello good people! :)

I'm actually quite amazed, and humbled, this thread has been replied to recently. Thank you all so much for the kind words.

TrainerX and SoCalDude, I can't thank you both enough for the kind words regarding my mom. I wish I had good news but all I'll say right now is, my prayers are never ending. Her back fracture was healing and we (my family and I) really thought she'd be fine after a long while. But then advanced cancer was found and they say it can't be helped.

Last February we were forced to do something that, as a family, never thought we'd allow any of our family to go through. When it became obvious she required 24/7 care, we had no choice but to place her in a nice home that could supply that. The place is really great. Clean, well attended and she has a nice private room that we've set up as comfortable as possible with some of her favorite things from home. It's within 25 miles from me and I see her at least 4 times a week for several hours each visit.

I am a bit stuck though. Staying at her house to care for it and the property, as well as not wanting to get too far from her keeps my hands a bit tied right now. I'll have to make a decision very soon though. The money I was saving to buy the truck I drove has been what I've been living off since May 2012. It's all but gone now so I'm feeling the pinch.

Rock and a hard place barely scratches the surface on this one.

Anyway, I sure hope everybody is happy, healthy and above all....SAFE out there. God bless everyone. :)

    Chris

I have 2 questions, who/what is the best GPS for the money. Not the best but the best for the money. You can get one @ WalMart for $100. to $200 but I'm sure there are better for more money but the most expensive isn't always the best I'm sure. 2nd question is what is the general governed speed of a W/S truck? Thanks in advance. Dave

Any Truck specific GPS will work, they're all about the same. General governed speed would be between 65-67 mph.

Chris I've read this from the beginning (ORG's thread actually) and sorry to hear about you having to leave and go back home........

hope you find the time to refresh this thread periodically: just in case you decide to drive again( even if that means taking a job locally so you're close to your mother, and home every night)

best of luck to you in the future.
