I tried that once and the next day the filter was clogged up.
That a bit over a month ago on the day of my last home time in Denver. I made it as far as the Limon TA.
I won't do that again. The guy at the TA told me that he has heard similar things from other drivers, that it clogs the filter. (And some drivers swear by it, go figure)
I got down to -11 last night. I kept it running and everything was fine.
I drove 60 miles to my pu, but when I got there the engine started running a bit rough. As I headed out and got up to speed things got much worse.

It took on-road over 4 hours to contact me - they are very busy these days. But she got right on it and I had a message back in about 10 minutes.
I lucked out being at the truck stop that I was. There was an open bay and they could get me right in.
If I had been stuck somewhere that required a road call I would have waited hours, if not until tomorrow.

The under-glass filter was all iced up from water in the fuel, and there was 1/4 inch of sludge at the bottom of the housing. Probably hasn't been properly cleaned since I got the truck.
I had to wait an extra hour to replace the drivers side canister fuel filter, and that one was pretty bad as well. The mechanic couldn't remove the filter with the wrenches he had in the shop, and had to wait for the truck to get back with his 'good' filter wrench.
All in all, nearly 7 hours down time today.
And I am not able to deliver my load until tomorrow morning because I was running out of 14. I also lost a nice 1200 mile load to MT (I think); I've still not gotten a qc message releasing me from the pplan.

So now I'm in Oak Grove, MO at the QT after a much needed Walmart shopping trip.

Good news is the truck is running great! It pulls hills better that it ever has.
I guess the combination of getting broken in (about 190k miles on her now) and all new fuel filters really makes her happy.

I have been running Howes in mine for some time now, and when I had a b-service just a couple of days ago, they said that my fuel was nice and clean with no water and the filters where not clogged.

drove over to t/a and was full. drove to pilot and as i figured ,that was full too. ended up at the petro by the speedway. plenty of spots too choose from, though most is blindside back unless you pull forward. which i dont pull into these kinds of spot cause its a real pain to back out of. easier to blindside back for me. other swift driver helped me back in and i helped him when i got in.

He did say that there were conflicting reports about it. Some like it and some seem to have problems.

Just to clarify, is Howes the gold colored stuff that seems to have a big display at every truck stop? That is what I used, but I don't remember the name.
Anyway, maybe it served to clean out the tanks and the residue landed in the filters.
I haven't used it since, and I had no problems until this morning.

This time it seemed to be mainly water, from condensation cycles the mechanic told me. And I have been between fairly warm and very cold in the past couple weeks.
The filter had a fairly thick coating of ice crystals, 2-3mm thick it looked like.

On-road tried to tell me that the error code indicated a bad injector, but I have gone through this too many times now.
Same thing a while back at Inver Grove terminal. They were looking for, and suspecting, all sorts of things. But I told them, no, it is just the filter.

Whenever it acts this way the first thing I check is the fuel filter.
If the fuel is topping out in the filter... REPLACE it and everything is fine.
I don't know why that is not the FIRST thing they check when power suddenly drops off.
Maybe it's like doctors that want to perform a myriad of tests, instead of just first looking for the obvious.
They first check the codes, and the codes tell them what might be wrong. Then they try to go through the whole list without first doing a visual inspection of the most obvious things - like filters not letting enough air or fuel through. And the codes don't seem to have these things at the top of the list like they should.

The only other time it happened it wasn't a fuel filter, it was the air filter the day after I went through a dust storm.
On-road was telling me all the things it might be.
When I told them about the dust storm, and that I had pulled the air filter to check it (I pulled it out and shined my flashlight through it, and I saw no light getting through), they had me limp to the nearest TA to replace it. All was fine after that.

Sounds like the "glass" filter had never been serviced.
When my truck started acting up LAST winter I suspected that the fuel was gelling so I tried a bottle of Howes and that solved my problem. I agree that it would have only made your problem worse.

good thing about this petro, next to las vegas speedway, is the nearby air force base. parked the truck facing the base and watching the flyby, takeoffs, and landing.
