So I just bought a brand new 2014 780 with a d13. I've had it about a week now, and 2 nights ago I had to idle the truck due to the cold. (Next week I have an appointment to get an APU on it so hopefully less idle time) However the other night I woke up to beeps on the dash and a warning light saying engine soot level was high, and to do a parked regen. So I did. Last night I get stuck up in Indianapolis and this morning the same thing. Having to do a parked regen again due to high soot levels and the engine being in derate.

So the truck only has 3k miles on it. Should I be having to do this already everynight I have to idle? I've spoken to 2 of my friends they said it's not normal, and both their trucks have about 100k miles on them and they haven't had to do a parked regen ever.. I called the dealership and spoke to my salesman he said ya it's pretty normal.

So is this something I should be concerned about? Also on a side note. When I picked up the truck last week my soot level gauge hovered close to empty all the time. Now it is constantly sitting right below the downward pointing hash mark that's about 2/3s the way across the gauge. Just seems like my soot levels are always high now.

Any insight would be great. As this has me concerned. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have some type of problem, never heard of a truck needing a regen within 3000 miles, but I'm no technician or Volvo expert.

No it's not normal, I had problems with EGR valve not closing all the way. It would close enough so that it wouldn't code, but kept contaminating the EGR cooler. Definitely get it checked.

I plan to take it into the dealer next Thursday when I get back to Dallas. Will have them take a look at it.

Not sure about Volvo, but if I idle 10 hours or so, the DPF needs to purge in a DD15, normal temps during driving clear it, I took off last night, had to drive a little slower, temps below zero, and it took 10 miles for the light to go off, the only time it goes on so far is during idling and it has had the overhead run. I run a lot of heavy slow traffic in Chicago land, the older trucks would load up the DPF doing that.

Someone told me a Volvo would bump up the idle and do it automatically, but that isn't happening with yours.

Yeah with mine if it needs it, it will go into high idle regen mode.

I've got a 2014 730 but with a d16 and it has 20,000km on it. It has been bloody cold the last couple weeks (-35 to -50 Celsius) so I have left it run almost every night.

I haven't even seen my soot level rise at all, my Truck does run pretty hard at 63,500kg so it cleans it out good but I would still vote towards you having a problem.

actually I did. And they have been excellent! Great salesmen, got me where I wanted to be out the door.

Ya I am taking it in to have it hooked up on the computer to see if they can find out if anything is wrong with it. It might have just been the cold. It was down at 0 and below the 3 nights I have idled it so far. I did the after treatment ATS status and there are 2 items that are marked check. They are going to look at it. Also getting a whine in the power steering I am going to have them look at.

New truck, just got to work out the bugs.

also on Thursday I'm having my APU put in.
