People with Asperger's Syndrome are everywhere. It's a mild autism spectrum disorder that only relatively recently was recognized. I'm an Aspie myself, and 35 years ago when I was undergoing testing for autism there was no such thing. Either you had full blown autism or you didn't.

It's not a bad thing. We just don't understand things like etiquette and social graces.

Well, I drive trucks because I like it. I have a dedicated local run so it's a good fit.

I certainly hope you're not comparing people with Asperger's Syndrome to high school drop outs and drug addicts.:)

You might be surprised who in your family might have it. The signs are subtle.

We don't wanna be "fixed". We do this job because we like it. I myself like it because I don't have someone breathing down my neck watching every move waiting for me to screw up.

That doesn't mean anything. This Aspie's been trucking 40 tons for 13 years now with no catastrophes.

That's right patty.....let me say 1st I don't know a lot about the disorder....so I can't or won't even try to comment on that. But , IMHO , any mental disorder should dis-qualify any one from driving a semi...just like any mental disorder should dis-qualify anyone from owning a gun....same same. I know I'll be in the minority maybe , but that won't be the first time....I mean no dis-respect to the OP , or anyone here on the forum that is affected by it....I just think that some things shouldn't be allowed....just "my" opinion though.

I'm surprised that this hasn't come up before during my time here, at least not that I've seen.

I'm more surprised, and equally disappointed, at some of the responses that the OP is getting.

I'd like to remind everyone that personal attacks will not be tolerated here. Remember, this is a trucking site. And here in open forum we are brother truckers before anything else.

If that simple request is too much to ask for anyone, than please, do us a favor and find somewhere else on the web to hang out.:)

    fld and pattyj Thank this.

That's what the forum is all about everyone agrees to disagree ,very opinionated as long as its done tastefully.I don't know anything about this condition either..Some mental disorders I do agree, ppl shouldn't drive, especially if its not fully in control. The op probably has a car and hes doing just fine.

I try to read every single posts before giving my opinion.Alot of times the more posts you read the better your feelings are on the subject.

    So I've noticed.

Seems to me anyone with such a "mental disorder" as to make them non-functional wouldn't pass the test anyway.

    No, different different.

I own many firearms and I take firearms safety VERY seriously, as any responsible gun owner does.

    I'd say firmly.

    ...Or the last, I'm sure.

    Thank you.

    Fair enough.

But like I said, if anyone is non-functional they wouldn't pass the test anyway. Very few Aspie's are non-functional. More people have it than you may realize, possibly even yourself.

I would suggest to everyone here that they read a little about it. It doesn't have to be anything heavy like the book I diagnosed myself with, just a little light reading here on the interwebz. You may find yourself surprised, or, hopefully at least, a little educated.
