Get out of the west and go east of the Mississippi ... freight is real lean this time of the year out west.

When it comes down to it... I'm really glad I won't be on my own to back or figure it all out all alone out there once I get my own truck. Really glad I'm teaming for that reason... I've taken note of your thoughts on training Doc. Thanks for your thoughts... I've really enjoyed your blog. Inspiring... I start school here in TX with Swift on Mon. I know the next 10 weeks will be a challenge. One I'm looking forward to...

That all said... Any more recommendations? Anyone reading this have recommendations on what I should make sure I get down pat before getting my own rig? Would really appreciate all thoughts...

Definitely. I went east out to near Atlanta. Waiting on a load.

Good luck with the new endeavor. Have fun in the experience.

I had a load going from Yuma up to near Chicago. Near Albuquerque they asked me to tcall it at the Albuquerque terminal. I did but quite frustrated. They needed a team to run it up to the delivery spot. Apparently it was a hot load. I hadn't known that but either way i didn't have control over it. I picked it up an hour early and ran it hard until they told me to tcall it.

I needed a quick break so I decided to stop at the reservation truck stop in AZ on the border of NM on I-40 to check on my pack of dog friends. Speedys truck stop. I was disappointed and didn't see them. Maybe they were off sleeping somewhere because it was kind of late. At least that's what I'm hoping. I spent the night at that same truck stop a long time ago and became acquainted with a ragtag pack of mix and match dogs. They were all one big happy family of strays that traveled together, somewhat, around the truckstop. I fed them last time and enjoyed their company while it lasted. The alpha is a long haired, scruffy mutt, looks like an Elkjound /Shepherd mix. There are a few siblings from the same litter it looked like. I missed them.

In Albuquerque they gave me another load out to here. Great miles and it was decent compensation for getting the other load pulled from me. I as pretty frustrated at the time but I understand why they did. Still, I was pretty cranky until I got the new load out to here.

I'm a little worried about my next load if it is going up to the northeast or upper Midwest since they just got hammered with more snow. Not so worried about the snow itself just don't want to get stuck creeping along at 15 mph or simply sitting like I did a couple of weeks ago on I-70. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Anyone ever been down to Key West on a load? Are there truck stops there? Freight?

I would think that there would be little to no freight.

Currently at the J in Sayre, OK. Got unloaded back in OK City and picked up a tcall at the Oklahoma terminal going up near Spokane. Good miles but hoping I get something taking me back out of there. I'm back on 40 again heading east in the morning then up 287 north from the TX panhandle into Colorado.

I'm on rollover hours so its gonna be a little tricky. Since I can only drive x number of hours that I am getting back everyday I think I'm going to start driving around 0400 instead of 0100 sharp (the time I would officially get my rollover hours back). No point in starting too early if I gotta wait until midnight everyday to get my hours back on the following day.

When running on recap hours for a tight delivery there has been times I've started my 14 hour clock before midnight home time. For example, let's say I have 3 hours left on my 70 and 6 hours coming back at midnight and I have a 6 am delivery to make and I need 9 hours to get to my appointment. In this case I can start my clock at 21:00 because at midnight I have 6 hours coming back. I'll be finished with my day after my morning delivery and won't be able to run again until around midnight the coming night with whatever hours I have coming back.

At first I was confused but I understand what you mean now.

The only time I get sketched out a little by that is when I'm in an alternate time zone or on the near border of time zones. I worry that somehow the computer will be delayed or my timing will be off just a little. But I understand what you mean. I may have to do that very same thing on Monday night into Tuesday morning when my delivery is scheduled. My delivery is scheduled for the morning of 1/28. I have about 3 days of driving ahead of me. Unfortunately I only had 3 hours left on my 70 today so I drove until I had about 30 minutes left and parked here.

Now, here's what I have been debating. My total loaded miles on this load are 1687 miles.

If I only have, say, 7 hours coming back to me tomorrow and then I have to shut down and wait until 1200 midnight Pacific time to get more hours back to drive the next day do I really NEED to start driving at 0200 tomorrow (I'm currently Central time - home term is Pacific) morning when my 7 hours come back? Since I can only drive the total of 7 hours tomorrow (9:30 the next day, 9:45 the next...etc.) and I would rather not start driving at 0200 and finish at approximately 0900 I would rather start my days a little bit later at about 0500 and run until 1400. Do you see anything wrong with this reasoning? So far I can't find any but I don't want to screw myself. Of course the final leg of the trip I'm going to have to start as soon as my rollover hours come back to me that morning so I can make my delivery time but do you guys see any flaw in my reasoning in starting my days, for the next couple of days, a little bit later since I can't do any more driving than the allotted rollover hours?

Let me know what you think. I don't want to screw myself somehow...

Alright, cool then. I'm more awake starting at 0500 then at 0200.
