I've got three trucks. Were is your solution. As usual another myopic driver. Go stand around and hold hands with ronmars and together your solutions will bring us to the promised land. Oops, neither of you have put forth anything. That's the problem with the trucking industry, to many blind drivers. Get some vision and put forth something. We're still waiting.

I have yet to see YOU put forth a solution. Have you done so and I missed it? -
What part of Striking was not my my first choice did you not get????
Being independent has its benefits and its detriments. By striking, we're calling to attention our conditions. If attaining attention helps to get the public on our side, it may put pressure on congress to permit us to become Energy Independent.
Do you not realize the immediate impact on crude and natural gas futures that if the president announced that congress agreed to let us extract oil and gas off of California, Alaska, Florida? The traders would be pulling their money out right now and the futures would nose dive even before one drilling rig was moved to any of the "known" fields. Add to that the permission to build and/or expand refineries and power plants. The speculators would be motivated to put money back in to securities, the dollar would once again be the monetary benchmark instead of the *&^%*& Euro.
That's my solution...getting the public involved and educating them. Because if we fail, the only options are the bottom feeders, and the Mexican trucks. Both of which don't give a rat's behind for safety.
Do you have something better or are you going to castigate me for adding my opinion/solution to the problem? -
You dont sound like you own any trucks, im making money, i am not going to go broke as the only payment i have is the truck and thats not even worth to be called a truck payment, which will soon be paid for. Go join OOIDA or something and sue the government with them, im sure you will get a QUICK response! Or better yet just keep asking for a higher fuel price, its drivers like you that are blind!

Well spoken Ron. Not practical, but well spoken. The solution is in the institutions that mandate the regulations that you currently fall under. The public is not going to open the state treasury and give a handout simly because brickman and sgt crybaby don't possess the intellect to understand that in order to solve a fuel problem your solution must be attainable and focused at the problem itself. The beginning of this thread discussed a FMCSA mandated fuel surcharge which would allow the complete and actual cost of fuel to be passed on the the shipper and allow for a fair playing field due the fact that the large companies would no longer have an advantage by negotiating on larger spreads. I guess you did miss that part. I don't want more "gooberment" is not an answer because you are already REGULATED.
The other reason a strike won't work is that simply standing in front of a camera and saying "i'm going broke" will not work without then providing the public watching the broadcast with a solution. The only possible solution in that situation is to then say "please give me a stipend out of your taxdollars". I'm sure that's why the pilgrams came to america, to ask for someone else's money. How soon should we expect to see results from the strike? -
The bottom line is there IS a big problem, HUGE problem and something needs to be done. -
The slams and LACK of a solution continue. -
Brickman, most have agreed that it is the fuel problem that is causing problems for the trucking industry these days, not tires, truck maintenance, or low freight rates. If Fuel is indeed the problem please explain to us how a mandated FSC which passes the complete fuel cost back to the shipper on every load is not the solution for Mr. and Ms. Trucker Driver. Don't forget we've already established that it can be implemented and forced upon you immediately by your friendly neighborhood FMCSA. The solution again awaits the critique of your infinite wisdom.
